Sure you spend 60% more on a house now, also sell it for 60% more when you get rid of it. So net worth doesn't change, the amount of zeros in bank account temporarily does.  Heck he could probably make a few mill selling a San Fran house in 5 years.  We don't have that kind of real estate market here, most of the guys make very little on the million dollar homes here.

Taxes are a whole other ball game...but if I remember correctly, you pay taxes in the state you play the game, so only half of his paycheck would get docked the crazy amount.  And I would assume marketing deals would be abundant in SF to offset those loses.

This is a different real estate market than in 2005. Real estate does not appreciate that fast anymore. And the more expensive homes are always more difficult to sell, so you'll likely to a hit unless you've lived there for 10+ years.

LA celebrities/actors take hits when selling their homes all the time.

I haven't live in Charlotte for about 25 years but I lived in southern Georgia for a short time about 10 years ago. When we moved back to Virginia, we bought a house that was about 800 sq ft smaller but paid $30k more for it. It is crazy, how it can vary.

I paid about 2.5x for my house in the foothills West of Denver than I would've paid for it if it was in my hometown back in NC.  Yeah, about 250% more.

Seriously, I googled and could not find any information about Josh Norman's agent..

I joked about his cousin representing him but with no info on this person it may just be someone who has no experience in sports management..

damn whoever he is, he really needs to fire this cat..I seriously think he is listening to his representation and not going with his heart..

It costs roughly 60% more to live in San Fran than it does in Charlotte.

So if the Panthers offered, say, 10 million to Josh.... San Fran would need to offer 16 just to match the Panthers in terms of real world dollars and not figures on a contract.

I really wonder if Josh's agent has thought this through.

You should relay this to Josh and bypass the agent

While I enjoyed visiting San Francisco, wouldn't think of living there, unless I got a 3-4 hundred percent raise.  Not that I am that concerned about the cost of living increase, there are just to many people there, to many crowds, to much traffic etc.... Not that I have anything in particular against SF, I feel the same way about NY or Atlanta or for that matter Charlotte.  But it would take a significant amount of money to get me to move to one of these cities.

Of course, Josh is younger, so he might enjoy the lifestyle in a place such as SF.  But I do think this is more about ego and him wanted to be recognized as the best more than it is about money.
