According to a CBS article, Josh's agent said he hadn't even been in talks at all with Gettleman recently and this was completely out of the blue. Also Josh was at apparently at a funeral today so I'm sure he's not in the mood to talk about this.

Well, Gettleman didn't say that they had talked recently, I don't believe.  Just said they talked numerous times.  Gettleman very well may have just decided to get it done sooner rather than later so he can focus on draft planning and Norman has at least a little extra time to talk to other teams before the draft (as opposed to if he had made this move some time after the draft).

Norman was going to get paid either way. He would either get 12 or 13 million from us or maybe 15 elsewhere. After taxes the difference would not have been that much.  But these kind of negotiations are all too often about pissing contests where reason and logic are clouded by emotion and anger. I doubt he comes back as I suspect they were not on good terms unlike CJ

I'm sure DG would've took a late 2nd for him.

How could DG accept any pick for him in a trade if Norman had yet to sign his tender?

You can't trade a player who isn't under any kind of contract, Chuck.

Then why didn't he sign the franchise tender?

Please provide the quote from he and his agent where he said that he wouldn't sit out the season.  Didn't he also say at first that he wouldn't skip offseason workouts? How did that work out, by the way?

Personally, I think there was every indication given to Gettleman by Norman's team that holding out was a legitimate option.

Provide the quote where he said he would sit out the season.  I'm not going to go searching the internet to prove a point to people at a time of heightened emotions when people aren't looking at this situation objectively.  Norman said, on TV, that when the time came to play he'd play.  And I don't recall him ever saying he wouldn't skip offseason workouts.

You don't jettison your best CB in a year where you are legit Super Bowl favorites.  Especially when that money will now go unspent anyway, and we are not going to replace him with anyone remotely close in talent.  Love Getts, but this move is absolutely baffling, I hope he has something better in mind.  I don't want to hear this BS about signing Star and KK now, that could have been done regardless..While he has not let us down with his shrewed moves yet, this will blow up in Getts face unless we bring in some CB talent ASAP

Have you noticed how NOBODY has pie'd your comment?  Conventional wisdom actually still has a place in this world.

You DO jettison a worker that doesn't want to buy into the company mantra.

It's not the headaches you get rid of...it is the headaches you keep you need to worry about.

Gettleman laid his brass balls on the table, you are welcome to observe, kiss or attempt to injure them.  Injury is not an option.

Well, unless you've had someone intentionally try to maim you on a football field. No, you don't get it.

You're not looking at this from his perspective.

$14 million in one season if he has a potentially career ending injury, and potential health problems the rest of his life at 29 years old versus a 3-4 year long term deal. Whether you like it or not, that is the approach players take. It can all change in an instant. That's just the ugly truth about this sport. In the end, fans don't give a poo, as long as they get their precious fantasy points. Some other player will take their place.

This is football. If he has a career-ending injury, that's how it is.

Are you suggesting that the team should be paying millions upon millions for a player that doesn't even play on the field?

Thats a load of crap.

Yeah, I'm sure if you get hit by a speeding bus tomorrow, and end up paralyzed. You're just totally gonna shrug it off, and be all like "Well, that's how it is".

I said nothing about paying him millions to not even play. But if you have an issue with players still being paid while injured, you should take it up with the NFL, that's in the CBA genius. Maybe try reading, and understanding the post before making a really stupid response.

Do u think I post looking for pies? Lmfao.  You can go on sucking off Getts like a homer all day.  Step back and look at things realistically one day it will serve u better.  While Gettleman in my opinion is one of the best GMs in this league, and he def know more about football then u or I, don't act like he hasent made bad moves in his tenure here.  Our patchwork secondary almost cost Ron his job just two years ago.  That wasn't Hurneys doing.  It wasn't until Norman, Bene and Boston started balling when we all but gave up on the season that the defense turned around and we snuck into the playoffs with a winning streak.  Did I say the Panthers would be a bad team this year?  Not in the slightest, no one player except Cam can spoil our season.  But it doesn't make losing your top CB, an All Pro, a homegrown player who we have watched grow into a superstar in a potential Super Bowl season get shown the door...Especially now when the money won't even be allocated elsewhere.  You calling him a headache is laughable, Gettleman didn't even negotiate with his agent.
