Why not a Sign and Trade with J.No

Basically this. Once you start down that road, teams know they can just wait it out and get a player for nothing on the open market, and maybe for cheaper.

I doubt any team thought Carolina was going to rescind the tag this year.  Means they would have to compete a year from now under different circumstances, cap, needs, etc that they would have.

So if you thought Norman could be a missing puzzle piece now....I don't buy the wait it out approach because everyone assumed he would be tagged and possibly walk a year from now

I'm talking like right now why wasn't there a sign and trade not back at the start of signing season.

You could still make the same case...Panthers trying to trade now because they know a long term deal won't work (and are looking for an option now vs letting him walk next season).  Still doubt if a team got a call now they would think Panthers would let him walk today.

I mean if you are Carolina...nothing changed from when you tagged him earlier.  They knew a deal wasn't getting done with him IMO.   You see guys play tagged all the time as rentals.  They could still talk.  I don't think anyone would have seen this coming

Because Maybe nobody wanted to trade for him. Only a fool witll trade for a free agent who wants to break the bank.

Josh didn't sign the tender to begin with, then if we'd have signed him to a long-term deal (one that Josh would have signed to begin with - 16mil/yr) no team would have traded for him with that contract. Sad thing is, I doubt Josh will get 16mil/year, probably more like 10-12/yr, which he probably could have gotten here.

Probably still can if he can put his pride aside.
