This part I disagree with when you think of the 2014 draft class coming up.  Would love to have KB, Trai and Kony if he performs to his potential.

So you are saying save the $$$ or extend current players? I see that logic-- I think we should sign KK, and next year Short and Ealy--I understand the logic, but if we sign a few one-year contracts, we would still have the $$$.  Star's long term deal will be in the $8-10 range (guess) and KK will demand about $13-15m.  Kalil has a couple years left tops--he makes $10m.  So, I think we could find the $$$ later by not signing any long-term deals now.  I wish I understood it more.

Gonna be interesting.

No you didn't. People saying they saw this coming are either talking out of their asses or have no idea how franchising players works.

Last year JPP blew his hand off and the giants STILL DIDN'T rescind their franchise tag.

This kind of crap just doesn't happen.

Now a year from now, yeah, I was in full blown "get the best out of Norman's last year" mode, and I thought we wouldn't re-sign him again next year, but never in my wildest dreams did I think getts would just say "eff it" and tell Norman to kick rocks a week before the draft.

my twitter feed was hinted he wasn't going to be here longterm...true I didn't think they would snatch the tag away but longterm signing...yes....

Excellent read: http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/carolina-panthers-josh-norman-dave-gettleman-042016

Gettleman did not believe Norman was in that category. Many evaluators around the league agreed with that assessment and said Norman benefitted from a system that limited his responsibilities on one side of the field.

That's not to say they believe Norman is an average player. He had an outstanding season. But they don't believe he has the skill set to be a lockdown No. 1 corner in any system.

This is as player friendly as you can be as a gm.  The panthers and normans camp have been in negotiations for ages now.  We couldn't get a deal done so we tagged him in hopes that something would get done.  After this much time the two sides arent any closer.  Gettleman grants norman the freedom to sign a long term deal with a team at 28 y/o as oppose to risking playing a year and hitting the market sniffing 30.  To think this is a slight against norman is ridiculous.  Ball is in his court to do whatever he wants.  We noe have the cap freedom to deal with our younger core players.  While we are obviously worst on paper with one less all pro we are in a better position financially to secure long term success.  Josh wins because now hes free to play for that 16 mil a year he may or may not be worth to somebody.  Its not the panthers so good luck to him.  We have playmakers.  Norman said it best.  Our best 22 will line up against their best 22.  Itll be fun.  We will be fine.

wow.  gettlemen playing hard ball with Josh. No way a team pays what he thinks hes worth.  He may come back to the table with carolina

Josh is good, really good, but he is still not as good as he apparently thinks he is.

Gettleman made the right decision, it was looking more and more like Norman wasn't going to be reasonable with his demands.

Too bad for everyone concerned, as Josh fit well within the Panther's system.

Seriously doubt he will perform as well with any other team... as many former Panthers have also discovered after moving on in free agency.

I have a gut feeling he will be back

I believe there is an excellent chance.

Panthers likely left their "best and final offer" on the table.

Now it is up to Norman and his agent to find out what he is really worth around the league.

He may eventually come to the same conclusion "Big Money" did.   Like Dorothy once famously said... there's no place like home, there's no place like home!
