Panthers rescind Norman's franchise tag...

As this news breaks, just speculating here, but only reason I can think they'd let him walk is concerns about how he'd act w/no long-term.

Panthers were nearly certain this was going to be Norman's final year in CLT. They were cool w/the tag. Maybe not w/how's he's reacted since

The player many believe is the best cornerback in the game -- Josh Norman -- is now a free agent. In April. Unreal circumstance

Talks between Josh Norman's agent & #Panthers were not going well. They weren't close. Most teams hold onto the player. Not the Panthers

I don't think I've ever criticized Gettleman but what? They couldn't trade him or keep him for one year?

I guess the thinking would be that we can get a 3rd round comp pick for him next year and that would be better than whatever we can get for him next year. Though who knows how much he is getting this late in the game. That could be a 4th just because a lot of the money has been spent and there won't be many bidders.

This is our culture now. Contribute to winning and a positive attitude or you're free to leave. Chase your money and we'll chase rings. I have no problem with this at all since we retain our core. Best case, Josh comes back and signs the tender then we win a SuperBowl and cut ties. More likely is using our first or second on a CB and still winning a Super Bowl while Josh hates his life in Cleveland or Jacksonville/reaches Deangelo levels of salt

Panther's short changed him two offseasons in a row and never truely gave him a serious offer this offseason.

It was to the point that Josh started acting this way because him and the agent felt Panthers weren't serious in negotiations and he flat said he wouldn't sign it till they were.

They never were interested and well here we are.

    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
    • Well, we got our answer on Army today.
    • Not a chance the SEC could compete with the NFL.  In the large cities that are not in the Southeast, (LA, NYC, Chicago, SF) College football is an afterthought.
