Only thing I can think of is that DG is going to let him test the market, find out he's not worth $16 mil a year and then bring him back in....just like he did with Charles Johnson.  It's a VERY risky move and I'm afraid it won't have the same outcome as CJ.  Either way, I stand behind Gettleman and I'm interested to see where this ride takes us.

This was my thought, I can't imagine he just completely cut him

Now, Norman hits the open market and while some teams are tapped out, other teams are flush with cap space. That list of teams includes the 49ers and, as Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets, the idea of playing in California appeals to Norman. The Rams, Bears, and Titans also have room to spend.

He is gone folks..

Bye.

And just like that, $13.952 million is wiped off Carolina Cap

- Adam Schefter

Someone please provide a list of FA corners..

This might actually be good..might be able to replace Josh with an experience corner at a lesser amount..

because someone just might be interested in getting rings instead of the big payout..

I'm not sure this is an ugly split,  like everyone is making it out to be. Josh didn't want the tag. Maybe Gettleman asked him if he wanted it removed and Josh said yes. Gettleman says,  Josh consider it done,  you know what we are offering,  we'd love to have you back. If not,  best of luck.

Just got the most confusing boner of my life. Good lord Gettleman has a pair on him. I'm not even mad. I as a fan have bought into his philosophy and it's what needed to happen. Now extend Star and Short. Sign someone like Cromo to compete. Don't dig with the GettleFather

This appears to be the teams with the most cap space.

Jaguars - $53,746,852

49ers - $52,154,301

Browns - $39,820,334

Titans - $29,422,028

Giants - $22,184,166

Bears - $22,085,772

Take a guess.

How are the Giants up there with all of the money they spent this off-season?

Get that sane logic outta here. We are in panic mode right now. Sheesh. Get with the program.

Wouldn't be surprised if we looked into Cromartie

The logic that the interior DL made our secondary better doesn't hold a whole lot of water considering we didn't get over the playoff hump until we had a fantastic season in which Josh Norman himself basically won 2 games for us.

If we want to get back to the Super Bowl, we are going to need some playmaking ability in the secondary. All the rationalizing in the world for this move is not going to change that. Period.

It fits what Dave learned from Jerry Reese.

Not surprised.

I want to believe that I truly do but Gettleman's statement suggest otherwise..

"After a number of conversations with Josh’s agent we realized that a long-term deal was not attainable. We thank Josh for all his contributions and truly wish him well." - GM Dave Gettleman
