not trying to be a downer, but that TE is garbage, in this O, he's gonna have to be able to block, those catches are what you expect from a high school player, nothing in that entire video stood out as something that would even come close to first round talent, for fugs sake, the first highlight was a busted lateral play... c'mon man....

so everything you know about him came from one highlight video?

As I said in another thread in as many words, he is slightly underwhelming for such praise, but at least he CAN catch, and appears on the surface at least to have good intangibles.

there is more to a TE then catching the ball, our O is going to be run first, if he can't block, he's useless. Just read the scouting report on him and it said his blocking was bad, I'm going to say we won't even look at him.

Just my opinion tho, I played TE for 8 years, I know the position inside and out, and I'm telling you, a O that features a TE as it's primary target is always going to inflate his stats and value, nothing about that "highlight' video stood out to me personally at all

Good analysis.

Although I would be absolutely floored if we took Spence. I'd guess it was borderline we would draft him in the first place just because he really isn't a scheme fit for us. He fits a 3-4 best with his size and Gettleman seems to love the size prototypes. Add in the character red flags and I can't imagine him even being a consideration for us.

I think he could play as a 4-3 end as well, though 3-4 is probably the better fit. Ken's list has us meeting with him at the combine, so there's at least mild interest. Basically I like him in the scenario that all of Lawson, Dodd, and Ogbah are gone. I think he's the last pass rusher with legitimate first round talent.

There was nothing that stood out of the video posted In the OP to remotely generate hype, I watched all 4 of the posted vids and the TE Iwas the worst of the bunch, there's Semi pro out here In vegas 10x better that can block as well

IF this is JStew's last year here, as his age and contract could become factors...you also can't overlook his injury history as it pertains to THIS season.

Point blank, I think we got lucky with Stew playing 14 games or so last year. I still can't trust him, and I doubt DG can either. That's one reason I can talk myself into Henry in the 1st.

Totally agree and his combine video was even worse. He looks small and not very athletic or strong. He honestly looks like a third or 4th round type of TE. He is just getting hyped up more due to a bad TE class.

Definitely a factor in my acceptance of a potential 1st round RB. Not thrilled about it but I don't have great confidence in the guys behind him. DG was worried about what would happen if KB got hurt so he went and got Funchess. I can see that scenario happening again with Stew.

When it comes to RB's is picking one in the first round that isn't a guarantee a horrible thing to do?

Isn't this common sense in today's NFL?  I mean, I don't know more than Gettlemen when it comes to football.  But common sense should be common, right?

Sometimes it's best to go against the grain... Trent Richardson just gave Alabama rbs a bad name. It's a different position, but how many people said Cam wouldn't make it in the NFL? And was the next jemarcus Russel? I could name to you about a dozen.

I'll just leave this here

With Yeldon in the NFL, Henry took over as the starting running back as a junior in 2015. Playing in all 15 games, he rushed for SECrecords 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns on 395 carries.[10][11] Henry won the Heisman Trophy, beating out finalists Christian McCaffrey and Deshaun Watson.[12] He won numerous other awards including the Doak Walker Award, Walter Camp Award, andMaxwell Award.[13] During Alabama's victory over Clemson in the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship, he rushed for 158 yards on 36 carries with three touchdowns. During the game, he also brokeShaun Alexander's record for most career rushing yards in Alabama history.

DE should be the pick with a trade up for DT in second round, this would be in keeping with the long philosophy of Gman

We had the highest scoring offense last season and lost nobody, plus, getting a 1st rd WR back from injury.  Don't see a RB or TE even getting a sniff in the 1st from us.

    • They gave him franchise QB money. Sorry but if you don't earn it you can be embarrassed.   He's rich he can take it. Stop feeling sorry for people who can't live up to their contract. This isn't a sport to be soft. Daniels deserves to give back some of that money he stole if you ask me.
    • And it was coming off of a bye week. Perhaps he should vacation a bit in Germany in the off season, something certainly seemed to help him there.  No, really... He showed maturation and the possibility that he's turning a corner. That wasn't the NY Giants out there, but the back to back Super Bowl champions with the #3 defense in the league, with them coming off of a prime time loss. And that was a 9-1 team we just played literally down to the last second. Bryce played so well that maybe, maybe he wins over some nay-sayers. It's still early, though, but what a nice breath of fresh air that was. You can win quite a few games if that is your normal performance. It is obvious that we are still on the learning curve, though. But that was one helluva test he just took. Some of these QBs coming out of college just don't have a lot of games under their belts, especially in top end programs. They are perhaps just a year to two years behind center in games that matter before they move up. It can take them some time to hit their stride. We can still be cautious about our future and still celebrate a great game by the kid, though, and we should. He earned the laurels today, or had before they were snatched away at the last second.
