Are people trolling with this Derrick Henry stuff?

I won't argue with the stats because I don't know, but I was referencing the article I linked directly.  Also, one of your concerns has been Henry's workload, yet I assume Bo had far more career carries in college?

Except for Bo's senior year, he played in a triple-option offense, which reduced his carries (because there was the fullback and the other halfback to share carries with).

And even in his senior year when Auburn changed to the I-formation to take more advantage of Bo's incredible athleticism, he had only 278 carries.  By comparison, in his senior year, Derrick Henry had 395 carries.  Let me do the math for you... Henry had 117 more carries for 433 more yards in his senior year than Bo Jackson had in his.  So, in his "extra" carries over and above Bo Jackson, Henry averaged 3.7 yards per carry.

So, like I said, comparing Derrick Henry to Bo Jackson is what stupid people do.  But do feel free to continue doing so if you feel the need.

In the article I linked, it breaks the two (and Herschel) down by their best single seasons.  It further breaks things down vs. SEC competition, vs ranked teams, etc.  If the author is even remotely accurate then Henry stacks up quite well.  Not sure what else to say.  I haven't read anything as in depth and I have no reason not to believe it.  I'm old enough to remember Bo and Herschel and what animals they were, so to even be in the same breath (which he is as the leading single season rusher) is an accomplishment.

Except it isn't the same breath.

Bo and Herschel played in an age in college where the offense was centered around the RUNNING game.  In other words, the defense was cognizant that the greatest threat on the field was the running back.  And they were built to stop the running game over and above all else.  And yet Bo (and Herschel) DOMINATED those defenses designed to stop them still.

Henry?  He plays in an age where rules are structured to benefit the passing game.  Ergo, defenses can't just stack the line and ignore the QB.  Which is what they did ages ago (except against the very special and very rare QB).  Just as a comparison, the most passes that a QB threw in a season while Bo was in college was 171.  That averages to between 15 and 16 passes per game.

So please don't even try to convince me about how a running back with a lesser yards per carry average than Bo Jackson is in "the same breath" as him.  Again, feel free to believe that if you wish.  But your own self-delusion isn't my problem.

Eh...we got to the Super Bowl with eh line play.  It caught us finally when we matched up vs a team that would test any team in that regard.

Still a firm believer you build your line.  Build your OL and RB injuries don't matter much

our weakness in the OL always have been the OT since Gross retired, we have neglected the positon for several years and it showed up vs Seattle in NFC championship and recently in SB 50. Im glad we drated Williams who should take over the RT position but we need a future LT. Gettleman praises the idea of " you can never  have enough pass rushers & they win the games" he also needs to realize that in order for panthers  offense to counteract the same philsophy we need to have top notch talent at OT. We don't need to overreach but we need to make the same type of investment as we do on DE.

Well, I'll say this.

Based on Huddle history, if a majority of the board thinks he's going to suck, he might just end up a future all pro.

This is the same board that had an aneurysm when we drafted Luke, and Cam. Not exactly top of the mountain level of player evaluating.

Let's not forget. Ron Rivera has been coach of the year for 2 of the past 3 seasons. Which in turn means his staff has also been top notch. Just because Henry didn't do blah, blah, blah in college doesn't mean that he can't learn to do those things. For that reason I will also add that I don't care who we pick because I trust our coaches will put that player in a position to succeed for the team.

"You can't teach 6'5 240"-Dave Gettleman after drafting KB

I tend to agree with you. Not to the point of thinking it's impossible though.

I'm for grabbing positions that you need a lot of. Lineman, ether side. Defensive backs. Wide receivers. It just makes more sense IMO.
