Are people trolling with this Derrick Henry stuff?

Those are some misconceptions.

- He's not a freak. By all standards, he's an average big RB. I wouldn't even call him a legitimate Bruiser because he doesn't punish and run over LBs and DBs. Yes, he has breakaway speed but who's to say he'll breakaway from defenders at the next level.

- He doesn't fit what we do. Henry is a traditional power RB who has never played a down in a zone-blocking scheme and is useless in the passing aspects of the game. Our system is tailored towards Cam's strengths. What good is it if Henry can't play and thrive in the Read-Option? Nothing from his skillset indicates that he can at the moment.

I was about to post something just like this, especially bullet point #2. Thanks.

do you ever just sit back and marvel how somebody on this board can post something so completely and totally wrong and either expect people to be just as stupid as they are or just not care and refute the facts

Its absolutely astonishing, and hilariously enough, its an every year thing.

It's fun tho...

I don't get all caught up who we draft or bring in as FAs. Gettleman gonna gettle. That good enough for me.

I would for sure be cool with a big punishing runner like Henry, but I am almost positive our first round pick is going to be a safety.

Who do they like at safety?  People on this board seem to love Cravens, but he seems like an OLB to me.  There are a ton of athletic DBs in this draft - I think 6 of the top 9 SPARQs in the draft are DBs.

We could also trade our 30th pick for the 24 pick in last year's draft, DJ Humphries. I'm sure the Cardinals would love it.

The Broncos also lost 4 games and are lucky they didn't lose more.  A juggernaut they are not.  If we love a player, as we just may with Ifedi for example, great.  But only if truly BPA.

In addition to the Broncos and Panthers, the Seahawks, Cardinals, Pats, Packers, and Steelers had bad to average tackle play.  I'm not at all against drafting a tackle but I don't think having a top 10 LT/RT combo is necessary for winning a SB.

Agree.  My trade for Humphries comment was obviously tongue in cheek as well.

I doubt the Cards would either. Humph rise was always going to need a year or two to develop. If we had taken him and we wanted to if AZ didn't he would have been on the bench behind Oher all year.

SPARQ seems like such a nerdy Seahawk thing.  The Godfather is looking for football players.  There has been value in the late first at safety in recent years however and I do like Cravens as well.

No, they're not. Look at their formations. Alabama doesn't do zone-blocking. That's not their M.O. A few plays don't count.

Well, considering that Cam got 600-700 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs, I think it's a fair sentiment that we still use the Read-Option... a lot.

Formation doesn't really have much to do with the blocking scheme at all. Bama runs a decent mix of both man blocking and zone blocking like we do.

Yes, we do use a fair amount of read option and Bama runs none from my recollection, but it's not the majority of our running game and no Henry never ran it at Bama(no clue if he did in high school, but my guess is if you have a Derrick Henry in high school you just give him the ball and don't worry about using any fancy read option), but I don't really think it would be that hard for him to learn it. The RB's role in the read option is pretty simple. You either get the ball or you don't after that it's just a standard inside zone play. The QB is the one who has to make the read and decide to handoff or pull.

For the record, I don't really want Heny in the 1st. I'd be okay with it but he is far from my first choice. If he's there in the 2nd I take him without a second thought.

Hard to argue the results though. I think they probably go a little too far with it, but it's definitely a tool that should used be utilized in my opinion. Better athletes have a higher chance of success in the NFL than marginal athletes and the data backs it up.

He also wouldn't necessarily have to start from day 1 here either.  Could be eased in as he learns the system.  As a first rounder he would have the 5th year option and at least 4 years to start on that rookie salary as Cam is in the prime of his prime.
