Are people trolling with this Derrick Henry stuff?

my only issue is people declaring henry a big bruising running back...he's big, but he is not a punisher. he's a one cut downhill runner who is deceptively shifty for his size, but he isn't going to be train wrecking defenders like stewart or lynch.

i'm not even sure where the blount/jacobs comparisons come from either.

henry is more the arian foster mold.

I've seen Eddie George thrown out a few times now and I think its an apt comparison

He'll be gone by our 2nd pick.  Either take at 30 or rely on an aging, injury prone, cap monstrosity and his serviceable yet mediocre young backups.

Sounds like a patented Gettleman trade up scenario.

Eh...we got to the Super Bowl with eh line play.  It caught us finally when we matched up vs a team that would test any team in that regard.

Still a firm believer you build your line.  Build your OL and RB injuries don't matter much

I've always thought this as well - and I think RT is potentially the biggest weakness on the team right now, unless Remmers or Williams can improve on handling speed on the edge in the offseason.  But when I start looking back - many of the recent Super Bowls were played between teams with weak to average OTs.  I like that the interior of our line is very strong - that is a weakness that is harder to protect, I think, because interior disruption is much harder to handle.

The NFL passing game is evolving in a way which can cover up for subpar to average tackle play.  One thing I hope we can incorporate more of in the offseason is a quicker passing game (getting KB back will help).  We probably use more max protect pass plays with long developing routes than any team in the league - and Denver just showed everyone how to attack that scheme.

Too cute and risky IMO.  The Titans and Cowboys have long been linked to him at the top of the 2nd.  Hell even the Broncos at 31.  If he's our guy, take him.

We are obviously interested in the 2nd round safeties (and most importantly there are more than one of them) so if they start flying off the board in the 2nd, a small, reasonable move up for one of those guys makes more sense.

I agree that he isn't a bruiser - he sometimes shies away from contact in favor of falling forward for an extra two yards (rather than running through someone).

I'm not sure Henry has a direct comparable among past and current NFL RBs.  His lateral agility is certainly subpar, he's doesn't have a quick first step but he has breakaway speed.  And yet you have to take into account his weight when comparing him to other athletic tests done by other running backs.  His density-adjusted testing results (it's easier to run a 4.3 40 at 180lbs than at 240lbs) tell you he is a great yet unique athlete.  The tape tells you he isn't going to be a pass catching back and zone-running likely isn't going to be a strength of his.  However, he would likely thrive in a traditional power scheme with a strong interior O Line that can keep him clean through the line and limit disruption into the backfield.  Sound familiar?

Drafting Henry would likely be a sign that the offense is going to slowly move away from zone-read concepts with Cam and more towards a traditional power running game.  That might keep Cam healthier by limiting the hits he takes.  And Henry probably takes over the role from Cam of closing games by picking up the last three first downs on the ground.

I'm hoping he isn't our pick in the first.  But I'd be happy to get him in the second or later.  I have no idea where he is going to be drafted.  I don't think he fits a lot of teams out there.

We could also trade our 30th pick for the 24 pick in last year's draft, DJ Humphries. I'm sure the Cardinals would love it.

The Broncos also lost 4 games and are lucky they didn't lose more.  A juggernaut they are not.  If we love a player, as we just may with Ifedi for example, great.  But only if truly BPA.

It's not a risk because if we don't take him in the first all it means is we got someone we value more, like a Dodd for example. But then if he's still lingering around in the top 10 of the second I could absolutely see us getting him. That's exactly what happened with Funchess.

On Henry's pro day he only did receiving drills.

I'm good with running anything to catch the ball," Henry said. "Anything to make myself more versatile, more useful, I'm all for it."

Gman values versatility and could think that he could be used as a RB,HB, and even TE.  Our offense is being built more around the no huddle and having players that can line up in different formations w/o substituting is important.  An Aaron Hernadez type to complement Olsen would be impressive.

We have less draft capital this year than last year, and are further down the draft board.  A move up is possible, but not as high as last year.

Watch his catch and run at 1:30 as a freshman

I've only been occasionally glancing through the Huddle this offseason and I keep seeing people seemingly seriously suggest Derrick Henry to the Panthers. He would be a terrible pick. Not because he's a running back, but because he's the wrong running back for this team. I'm part of #NeverTrump on Twitter and I'm now coining #NeverHenry for the Panthers.

If Michelangelo himself designed the perfect RB for the Panthers it would be Derrick Henry.
