Think about where your mind is, if something happens and the first thing you think about is something that happened two months ago.”

“What could he learn?” Sharpe wondered. “He could do interviews like Coach Belichick. [In a monotone voice:] ‘Yeah. We’re on to Cincinnati.’ Or he could do an interview like Marshawn Lynch — ‘I’m just here so I don’t get fined.'”

To Sharpe, Newton’s behavior after the Super Bowl is a reflection of his emotional personality, and that personality is nothing but a good thing for the NFL.

People love them some Cam.  Whether it's love to hate him or love to root for him... ain't much of an inbetween when it comes to him.

Reading this thread gave me this exact thought/reaction.

As much as I'd love for Cam to be a National Media Darling...that's what he is locally and we know what we've got...the defending NFL-MVP Mega-Star.

When it's all said and done Cam may just go down as the greatest player to ever do it. People have never seen anything like him, good or bad...you can't compare him to LeBron or anybody else. I've never seen anyone discussed like he is. Its Cam Newton - and everybody else...and I think that exactly what he was going for.

Great article!

Folks love Cam the Winner who celebrates, dabs and gives football to kids.  They hate the pouty Cam who hates losing or putting a towel on his head.  

Cam will never do enough in their eyes because he's so emotional.  It's funny bringing up the Pats because they are the "model" NFL franchise with fairly poor sportsmanship, several cheating allegations, but with the wins to gloss it all over.

Let's win a Super Bowl next year.  Then no one will care about Cam's negative.

Cam will never go down at the GOAT because of the detractors (which number greatly) continue to tarnish his reputation at every turn.  He can win 3 more MVP's and 2 Superbowl Rings, and you will have a large part of the masses mention "$cam stole a laptop".  Cam deserves better, but as long as his approval rate remains in the 50th percentile, he will never get Peyton-Like accolades.

Definitely agree with Shannon. The way some people continue to talk about Cam you would think no other sports star has been curt with the media or opponents after a loss. It's like a weird mix of racial and personality hate that's fueling this thing to go on far longer than it should.

When you're bigger than life, like Cam, the criticism will be overblown as well. Those who took offense to Cam's celebrations were just waiting for the opportunity to pile on.

I don't know why Sharpe never coached. He loved the game, he understood it, and I can't stand listening to him talk. Really seems like he would have went a different route.
