*I did one in the draft forum, but screw it haha--I'm going to continue with the visual aids per the usual...this year, they will also include Game of Thrones content.

This draft considers BPA scenarios, builds from the trenches, gives Cam support, and hauls in a shiny new safety.

1. Jarran Reed DT 6'3 307 Alabama

I made a thread about the for-sure guys I think should be gone (link) & there is just a cluster(you know what) of great DT talent this draft.  Jarran could be a fantastic pickup for us if he falls.  This is not a unrealistic scenario in my opinion.

Gone in the case but considered: Shaq Lawson, Kevin Dodd, Hunter Henry, Corey Coleman / Picked ahead of: Derrick Henry, Su'a Cravens, Sterling Shepard

2. Austin Hooper TE 6'4 254 Stanford

This kid is Ben Solo in the mold of an NFL TE.  For how much hype has been around Hunter Henry, I see just as much quality in Hooper for an offense like ours.  If we don't trade up in the 2nd, he could be in the range of our pick as the BPA.  Good rush blocking foundation in place which is big in these parts.

Considered: Deion Jones, Darian Thompson, Willie Henry, Shilique Calhoun (Really like all of these options)

continuing on...

3. Matt Judon DE 6'3 275 Grand Valley State

The more I've read on this prospect, the more I realize Judon is awesome regardless of coming from lesser competition in college.  Also, I think linemen in the mid-rounds is always a good bet.  Particularly from big schools but this guy brings it as well.   I don't care where you play, 20 sacks in a college season is no fluke and he fits our defense.  Would compliment Ealy quite well IMO.

4. Willie Beavers OT 6'4 324 33.5 arms Western Michigan

Echoing what I mentioned about mid-round linemen, Beavers could really fit the mold of what we look for at tackle and could be a very nice backup piece with room to grow and a possible left tackle given his strengths against speedier edge rushers. Seems like a solid mid-round choice.

HERE'S MY SLEEPER:

5. Kavon Frazier SS 6'0 214 Central Michigan

I'd like to think we keep a streak going of finding contributors/potential starters late such as Bene.  Frazier could be the one and really seems like one we could target in a mid/late round trade-up.  Killebrew and Darian Thompson seem super interesting but this Frazier kid could bring something special to the table and contribute immediately on ST and transition into our starter at SS.  His instincts are good, has lightning quickness to run stop, and is no slouch in coverage.

...and this has the sounds of a Panthers' scout:

Quote

"I really like his potential because he's a big athlete who will hit you and immediately brings special teams value to the table." -- NFC South scout

Who are all these guys

No just kidding this is a good write up.

I still don't know who they are though. I've been in a sports blackout since February

Kavon Frazier and Hooper are the one's I really find interesting.  Wanted to try and see a way to mock Shepard or Darian Thompson but decided to go with the sleeper/lesser known prospect route.  Figured to get some fresh names out in the forum.

Eesh! That's harsh haha.  What makes you sour on the two of them?

Reed is a bust and thats way too early for Hooper.  It would be better to go with TE Henry in the 1st and theres a good chance DT/DE Nkemdiche may still be there in the 2nd or pick up the SS Sua Cravens.

Love every pick except for Beavers.  Watched him against Ohio St and was not impressed, at all.

Would rather take Brandon Shell and that's not me being a homer, well, maybe, but still, a 3-year starter out of the SEC is a better option than some guy from Western Michigan. Small school o-linemen don't make it in the NFL very often.

 But great draft overall.

Proclaiming him a bust aye--mind explaining why? We may have to agree to disagree on Reed; I think the kid has mad potential.
