Happened in the French Qtr during the 'French Qtr Festival'. Streets jammed with people, yet they still let traffic try and get through. Place is a frickin zoo and not worth the stress and hassle. Stay away and you will be better for it. That's why the locals stay away from all that crap at any cost.

This did not happen in the French Quarter.

It was a3 car pile up. Smiths was in the middle. So it isn't clearly the fault of the guy who shot Smith

From what I read, the guy hit Smith's vehicle and pushed Smith into the car in front of him.

That's an accident that is always preventable.

Even if he was walking to the back of the car cursing at someone, isn't that a natural thing to do? You get hit in the rear by someone, tie get out to check the damage, and ask what the fug they were thinking. Probably very loudly. Doesn't mean you deserve to be shot, no matter how big you are.

Just saw the guy was booked for 2nd degree murder.

Innocent until proven guilty, I know.

However if your first thought at the news of someone being murdered relates to  a political stance you have, that's really fuging sad. Then to indulge on your political stance and make assumptions to align with your stance is even worse.

I get the feeling we will hear that the shooter had priors and/or there was a reason he didn't want Will to call the police to the scene. It just doesn't make sense to shoot someone for calling police to the scene of an accident in any other way. Still not worth taking a man's life. Have accountability and own your fug ups.

The couple had left a late dinner at Sake Cafe on Magazine Street minutes before the gunfire erupted, according to a source.

The shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. after three-car accident near Sophie Wright Place and Felicity Street in the Lower Garden District, according to Officer Juan Barnes, a New Orleans Police Department spokesman.

A Hummer H2 rear-ended Smith’s Mercedes-Benz SUV, Barnes said, causing Smith’s vehicle to rear-end another car, driven by one of his friends.

Smith, 34, and the 30-year-old driver of the Hummer “exchanged words” before the driver of the Hummer pulled out a gun and shot Smith multiple times, police said.

Smith died on the scene.

His wife was treated at University Medical Center after she was struck twice in the right leg, police said.
Police were questioning the driver of the Hummer and recovered the gun used in the shooting, Barnes said. Reporter Lyons Yellin said a second person was also being questioned.

Hayes is a former New Orleans prep football star who was once considered one of Louisiana’s rising gridiron stars, NOLA.com reported. He is listed as a player for the Crescent City Kings local development team as recently as 2015
His profile on the prep recruiting website lists him as a 6'4", 280-pound defensive tackle for the Warren Easton Charter High School class of 2005. He does appear to have been recruited by any colleges, and several schools showed only "medium" or "low" interest in him, the profile says. His commitment status is listed as "undecided."

Hayes was previously arrested in August 2010 and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and illegal possession of codeine.  In June 2012 he pleaded guilty to a weapons and codeine charges, and received a 5-year prison sentence that was immediately suspended. He withdrew the plea a month later. In January 2014 he pleaded guilty to a reduced weapons charge and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was sentenced to six months probation.
