But, I absolutely believe in gun safety.  I have taken several gun safety courses.....my wife has taken the safety course....I even required my kids to take the safety course even though they have zero access to the gun (they need to understand it is absolutely not a toy).  I also keep it locked in a gun safe that has a security code and fingerprint access.  It is ONLY there for my protection and the only time it comes out is to clean it and fire it at the range once a year to ensure it is in good working order.  I also NEVER clean it with anyone else in the room.....just to be safe.

Okay, so I own a couple guns as well and my wife also knows how to use them. No kids, so I don't keep them locked down like Fort Knox, but I have a serious question for you.

There is absolutely no way to practice this, but do you have any idea just how long it would take you to awake from a dead sleep at 3AM, get to that safe, combo, code, fingerprint, open the safe, load the weapon and be ready to confront someone who just smashed your door in? Ever done that stopwatch scenario? Almost impossible to replicate unless your wife decided to put a stop watch on you in the middle of the night unbeknownst to you. But I'm curious to know from those who do have kids and keep their weapons locked away.

Fuller said he had not spoken to the man seen in the video (The attorney for the family of Will Smith), but he said he had a witness of his own who saw Smith in possession of a gun. Fuller also noted that he had suggested another gun was on the scene two days before police announced Tuesday that one had been found in Smith’s Mercedes.

“How would my client know to tell me that if someone didn’t brandish a firearm?” Fuller asked.

Fuller also raised a new possibility of “untoward” behavior on the crime scene that prevented the police from finding the gun immediately — activity for which he said a former cop may be responsible.

“I find it odd that on yesterday, after I communicated with one of the detectives in the case and expressed reservations about possible untoward activity by a former NOPD officer, that all of a sudden now we have three guns,” Fuller said, referring as well to a gun found in Hayes’ vehicle.

However, Fuller insisted the “untoward” activity of another person could “quite possibly” explain why only one handgun — the one police said Hayes used to kill Smith — was recovered that night.

Fuller continued, “I have been in contact with the witness that saw untoward activity on the part of parties that arrived on the scene after the shooting.”

This was not Hayes, according to Fuller, but another person who he said has agreed to give one more statement to him despite fearing for her life.

“The person who committed the untoward activity was identified. I showed the witness a photograph and she said, ‘Yes, that’s him,’ ” Fuller said.

Fuller would not say whether he was referring to Billy Ceravolo, a retired NOPD captain who had dined with Smith at Sake that night and who was at the scene after the shooting. Ceravolo was a defendant in a lawsuit filed by Hayes after police fatally shot his knife-wielding father in late 2005, though Fuller has said the two deaths are not related.

Ceravolo declined to comment on Fuller’s remarks Wednesday, referring questions to the NOPD.

Interesting   ,
It just keeps getting stranger and stranger

The scenario you gave doesn't jibe with the family's attorney. Did you even read the link?

"Attorney Peter Thomson said the accused killer, Cardell Hayes, targeted Racquel Smith first and has presented 'lies and factual distortions' about what happened that night."

"Thomson said that Racquel Smith walked her husband back to their vehicle, but that 'the killer follows them' and shot Smith's wife in both her legs, from the side, as she stood with her husband on the driver's side of their SUV."

No I didn't read the link and I'm not following the story.  Was just going off what has been commented on in this thread.  I clearly stated that witness accounts could clear this up so I don't understand the snarky reply.  Anyway, have fun passing judgement.

Snarky?

What you stated is the obvious.

I haven't made any judgment at this point. I am trying to discover all the facts. The facts will speak for themselves, and judgment will be rendered at the proper time based upon all of the facts.

Edit: And there is nothing "fun" about the entire situation.

First....my guns stay loaded in my safe.  That is why I keep it so secured.  Having to load it in an emergency is just dumb.

Actually, I do have a pretty good idea of how long it took.  About 6 months ago, the alarm went off with a motion detector in the basement.  I immediately checked the alarm and saw the motion.  I had the gun out and ready in about 15 seconds.

It ended up being a false alarm....everything was secure and the  alarm co was not sure why a motion was tripped.  But, it was a good practice for me.

toxicology report will have a lot to do with the next steps as well .

I bet they will TRY to indict   Mr,Hanyes  soon so a judge can be assigned to the case and then I can see a Gag order being  slapped on both the attorneys ..

David Belfield, a New Orleans defense attorney, predicted an Orleans Parish grand jury will not even indict Hayes because he has a demonstrable self-defense claim. He pointed to Hayes’ decision to remain at the scene even after the shooting. “He didn’t try to run or hide,” Belfield said.

If Smith threatened Hayes, Belfield said, it doesn’t matter whether Hayes fired once or 1,000 times.

“That’s the moment of truth right there,” the lawyer said. “You place me in the position of having a reasonable apprehension for my safety, and I’m either going to be hurt or be killed if I let you get to that gun.”

“Based on the limited information I know,” he added, “I believe the kid (Hayes) did the right thing.”...............................

Indeed , As the old saying goes ------->"I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by six"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Former NOPD Captain Billy Ceravolo (R) who had dined with Will Smith before Smith was gunned down on Camp Street watches as alleged shooter Cardell Hayes is taken into custody.

.................

Why was X-NOPD Captain Billy Ceravolo  even allowed to be involved in this crash/death scene Him and Smith was good friends  and He was not involved in it   "OR WAS HE?

-------------------------------------

The attorney for Cardell Hayes, the man accused of killing former Saints player Will Smith, aims to subpoena Smith's former teammate Pierre Thomas and former New Orleans Police Department Capt. Billy Ceravolo to appear in court later this month, according to WDSU.
