If Swayze's hip holds up, he'll be our punter. If he can sustain around a 48 yard average, he could become our own Shane Lechler.

In Canada, Killer.  They have a bigger field (length and width), which means fewer balls going out of bounds and fewer "inside the 20" kicks.  But the biggest reason the numbers are higher---no fair catches.  How many balls hit the ground and rolled due to that rule?

Palardy was in a couple of my classes at UT. He was god awful during his first two years but finally learned how to kick the ball by his junior year. Hope he sticks with the team as it would be awesome to have a Vol suiting up on Sunday's as a Panther.

Is there a stat that doesn't include the bounce?

Yeah I was at Tennessee when he was there and I was shocked how much better he got by his senior year, definitely a better punter than kicker.  Not sure if he's good enough to be an NFL punter, but I'll enjoy watching.  Also he's left footed.

Good question.  I am not sure.  I have not seen one, and I will check later.  I am speculating that the stats would be different.  When I saw that punting average, I got excited too.

I wonder why punters can't also be the kickers? It would seem that you could learn to do both.  Maybe it is like playing baseball and golf at the same time.

Also he's left footed which Gettleman seems to like.

Based on what? Source for this? I know Belichick only uses left footed punters because he believes the ball spinning the opposite direction from what returners are used to is an advantage, but I have never heard anything about Gettleman having a preference for left footed punters. Nortman is the only punter that we've had since Gettleman has been here and he is right footed.
