1st one kind of hated.  Poor production (sounds like they tried to clean it up too much or something).

2nd one was OK I would consider adding it to my collection.

3rd one hated.

4th one was semi Ok.

I'm just not into groups that scream for the sake of screaming.  Also not into the wall of sound but I guess I could see why some would be into it.  Just not for me.

Stan is so XM's Octane channel.

I use to have XM and that was one of my favorite channels.  Used to listen to Lithium,  Alt Nation, The Boneyard, etc.

It was nice at first because you had no commercials, but then I got tired of listening to the DJ's so I cancelled.

in the 80's i listened to a lot of metal. there wasn't really much in the way of classification/sub-genres....at least none that i paid attention to...until glam-metal hit the scene and every "metal" band had to have some power ballad to get noticed on the airwaves. my two favorite bands were iron maiden and judas priest and i guess i still have a soft spot in my heart for them.

i will admit to getting into grunge and covered them a lot throughout the 90s in bands i was in the first half the decade. i was big into soundgarden, alice and chain, and melvins. of course around that time i was also really big into dream theater.

i kind of got burned out of music for a long time but the last few years i've been pulled back into a lot of different stuff. i have to admit i don't know about the sub-genres i keep seeing like numetal or whatever so i don't know what i listen to gets classified in, nor do i care. i've reached an age that i like who i like and if i had a rat's ass to give for someone's opinion i might give it because i see no use for a rat's ass, but i wouldn't care. unless you like the stuff i like then that's awesome. double standards ftw.

anyway, here are the bands that keep in steady rotation on a couple of my pandora stations in case you're curious...

there's also a lot of tool and chevelle that pops up as well. i can't help it.

This is where you find out how young I am, but I loved Emery when I was in high school.  If you haven't heard their album, The Weak's End, you should give it a listen.  Came out in 2004 when I was a freshman, I think. They're from Rock Hill too.  Always had a thing for somewhat-local bands making it.

I love emery's album 'the question'. Such an interesting mesh of sounds and song construction. it's hard to really put them 100% into any genre. I mean even within any one song you can be taken in several different directions.  they never really get into any sustained grooves like most other bands. I don't think they do anything really unique except for the way they blend things together. Even the screaming they do has a harmonic element that blends with the rest of the singing.

1st one-Loved it.  I like how they worked the slide guitar into it.  Don't hear that much anymore.

2nd one-Loved it as well.  Reminds me of Queensryche on steroids.

3rd one- Not bad either but didn't like as much as the first two.

4th one-Love Deftones...so not much to say here.

5th one-Average.  Wouldn't turn it off but probably wouldn't put it in heavy rotation either.

6th one-More slide guitar...I love me some slide guitar so I can dig this one too.

Good stuff.  Out of all of those the only bands I'd actually heard before were Clutch and Deftones so I'm glad you posted these.
