The Inevitable "Trade-up" Thread

Given we have such a rounded roster moving into next season and looking at Mr. Dave's drafts, I think it's possible we could have another trade up. 

The question is: Could this year be one that's a 1st round move-up? 

It's not realistic to think we could move very high but after the top 12-15 prospects, it's been mentioned around by scouts, insiders, and even casuals here that there's an obvious drop off. 

So, let's say someone in that top echelon falls due to bad teams drafting for needs: Can you see us making a move? And for who? Note: We've traded up for Devin, Bene, and Daryl. 

Something I've been thinking is that if Kevin Dodd or Treadwell are sitting there before Atlanta (there's a big chunk of 3-4 teams high in the draft), us and the Lions could be decent partners.

Way too expensive to move up to 16.  According to the trade value chart, we'd about have to give up our 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, as our 1st and 2nd would be way short.  Not saying I wouldn't take the latter if I were the Lions, just going by the chart.

The Lions ironically were involved in a more realistic scenario in real time last year with the Broncos giving up 2 5ths and a JAG lineman to move up 5 spots (28 to 23).

We've dealt with the Vikings before but here's doubting they want to help out the NFC King.  That's about as far up I could see us going unless JNo really is on the table then who knows.  

The Bengals may be a possibility for some kind of a 4th/5th/future conditional combination to get a DB we can't live without in front of the Steelers.  Or maybe the Steelers under the same terms to get Spriggs or Henry in front of the Seahawks if we feel like we or the Hawks can't live without.

Not sure I see another realistic partner or scenario that'd make it worthwhile.

If we do trade up I doubt it is in the first.  Methinks we'd be more likely to make moves in the 3rd-5th rounds.
Top 20 picks are just too pricey.

Gettleman doesn't strike me as a guy who is going to invest multiple first round picks into one player. He is all about value. I don't believe that you can take all this talk of drop offs and apply it to Getty. He has proven that he will assign first round grades to people that others are on the fence about, and if that happens I believe that it is much more likely that Getty trades up in the second.

I agree. I think this would be a year to trade back into early 2nd and pick up another pick.  There isn't too much difference in value from pick 30 to pick 40.  This draft does have some great talent but also some sneaky talent.  Could get great picks in 2nd and 3rd that could be equilavent to that 30th pick

I agree that there isn't much difference in value between 30-40 picks wise, but having the fifth year option for a first rounder is probably too valuable to give up.

I'm still predicting we trade our 4th & 7th round picks to move up in the 2nd to grab Su'a Cravens, SS, out of USC.

To make any real headway and get at least up into the 40's, maybe with the Bills at 49 to yet again screw the Falcons (at 50) like last year, we'd have to part with at least our 2nd and 3rd.

Everyone would hate it, but I'd trade up a few spots to grab Corey Coleman.

Gettleman one time had a quote where he basically insinuated that he would never trade up or down in the first round- the up part is obvious the team moving up rarely wins, and the down part he just trashed how the pats always get 50 cents to the dollar

I think it's always going to be much too expensive to move up more than a couple of spots in the first round.

Our 3rd round pick would buy us six spots in round one (up to #24).  That same pick would buy us 13 spots in round two (up to around pick #50).

I'd guess that we don't trade in the first two rounds this year.  Without the extra comp picks, I'm thinking this draft plays out more like the 2014 draft - where we got KB in the first, drafted a guy who "fell" from the first round in the second (Ealy), get a high value lineman in the third (Turner), and then use the fifth or seventh to trade up on day 3.

My picks to fit that profile would be Lawson/Ogbah (DE), one of the many OTs that are projected to go in rounds 1/2, Hargrave (DT - I have no idea where he will go, but he would be a monster backing up Short), and we grab skill positions late.
