This sounds like an April Fools joke, but apparently it's real

Incredible Pro Day Results for German Wide Receiver

Quote

The hype train surrounding Moritz Boehringer was chugging along at a nice pace entering his pro day on Thursday. After an incredible workout in front of NFL scouts, that train is now in full runaway mode.

In a matter of hours, the wide receiver from Germany went from someone most outside the hardcore NFL scouting community had never heard of to a player some scouts now believe could be taken as high as the fourth round in the NFL draft.

Officially at Florida Atlantic's pro day, Boehringer ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash, had a vertical of 39 inches, a 10-foot-11 broad jump, a 4.10-second short shuttle, 11.15-second 60-yard shuttle, and a 6.65-second three-cone drill that had scouts on the ground doing double-takes at their stopwatches, shaking their heads, and laughing. He also had 17 lifts on the bench press. All of these marks would have landed inside the top five among all wide receivers who tested at the NFL Scouting Combine in February. And his 40, which was run on grass, is about the equivalent of a 4.39 on turf -- a time that would have tied for second among receivers at the combine.

What makes the performance even more remarkable was that Boehringer did it at a height-weight combo (he measured 6-4 1/2 and 227 pounds on Thursday) resembling an NFL tight end. There just aren't many historical comparisons for a player testing like he did at that size. Two of the more recent, better comps might be Devin Funchess and Dorial Green-Beckham -- 2015 second-round picks by the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans.

In the field drills, Boehringer caught every pass thrown his way despite some adventurous tosses by the quarterback. Scouts were curious if he had ever faced press coverage so they asked a couple of the defensive backs there to press him at the line of scrimmage, and he had no problems releasing. At least two teams wanted to see his blocking techniques as a tight end. And when he was coached up, he was able to immediately make corrections.

"I came here today knowing what I needed to do," the ultra-quiet Boehringer said in perfect English after his pro day. "But I didn't realize there was going to be so many people watching me."

Following his workout he was plastered in the locker room with questions from scouts who were getting their very first exposure to him. The Patriots, Packers, Vikings, Broncos and Chiefs appear particularly interested.

To anyone wondering, yes the Panthers were there.  They were reported to have met with DT Trevon Coley.

Here's Boehringer's NFL.com prospect profile (link) and a highlight video.

would be intriguing in the later rounds with his height, size, and speed. Could be used outside or in a TE in twin sets.  I would say 6-7 round pick or UDFA because of not seeing him play versus respectable opponents.   Saw his highlight video and he man amongst boys.

Nah. No April Fools. This story has been out a few days now, it's just that he killed his workout.

I would be interested if the kid has good hands, but I just really can't gauge how much of this is hype. It's hard to see a guy coming from Germany and making a real impact---at least in the short term. If we get a workout with him, then I'll believe he is more than a blip on the radar. Perhaps I should believe it now, being that Billy B is showing some interest.

That's seriously insane athleticism for his size. Just a notch below Megatron. The shuttles and 3 cone are the most amazing. Someone is going to take a flyer on him in the 7th. Doesn't seem like Dave's style to, but you never know.

Those highlights are pretty hilarious too. Similar to Brandon Wegher's college highlights. Just so athletically superior to everyone else on the field that there is no competition.

I would think he is exactly the kind of guy that Dave would pick. Big athletic and fast with a big wingspan. The question is would he make the squad because he could be snatched off a practice squad and we don't have that many slots open.

More likely that he trades the 7th. DG seems to have a real aversion to 7th round picks to the point where it seems like he thinks they are pretty useless. He's traded away the last 2 to move up in the draft as well as the one in 2017 for Norwood(the 7th in 2013 was traded away before DG got here) and a recent comment about Norwood where he said "we got a player for a 7th round pick which is really good" or something along those lines which makes me believe he doesn't really value them at all.

    • Man whether it's the Panthers or the Hornets it's crazy how many foolish talking heads there are in the local media. I just unsubscribed from locked on Hornets. Doug Branson with his cheesy mustache is an absolute clown especially when his partner isn't on. Talking about trading LaMelo because he can't win basketball games by himself with no semblance whatsoever of a legitimate Center. These YouTube personalities will say anything for a damn click.
    • I’m hoping for that exact same scenario, two seconds would be big for us. I’d hope for 3 impact players. A WR/DL/DE that can contribute like this current class would be key to our rebuild.
    • When I look at what I can find, a carryover problem from last season is our receivers are still unable to get enough separation on a consistent basis. Canales is certainly better at scheming them open, like how he sneaked out Thielen for a big play. But then he's also having Thielen running routes he frankly shouldn't be doing anymore. I feel part of the RZ issues is not really having anyone - after trading Diontae - who can make those quick cuts on a short field to give whoever is under center a wider window to throw. We also only have one guy with blazing speed in Thompkins and from what I could see, he's really used more to draw away coverage. I bring this all up because what Canales needs for sustained success - other than QB - is the other receiver pieces we'll be getting in the offseason.  Otherwise, I have to say that Canales isn't as afraid to be aggressive offensively. As others mentioned, still doesn't run the ball enough at times. Finally, I still feel his playcalls still doesn't line up with his mantra of getting rid of the ball within x amount of seconds. Maybe I count too slow. Oh, and I'm glad Canales first game after a bye looked good. I feared he'd be like Ron Rivera where we would fall flat on our faces.
