Is it Imperative that we get a day-1 starter this draft?

Looking over the roster, I am having a hard time finding a position without a starting player.

So do we have positions we can upgrade in the draft? Or are we looking at finding players to groom for a couple years to take over a position?

Sure, we need depth all across the board, especially in the trenches and in the defensive backfield, so are there any players available, through the draft, that can be 1st day starters? 'Cause I really don't know if any rookies jump out to me as day-1 starters.

A Day one starter if it matches up with BPA in this draft will come at either DE with a high pick rotating in, or SS (If he beats out Boston).  There are no other available positions available.  But...Next year you will have an open DE spot that CJ will vacate, an open LT spot Oher may vacate, and open CB slot that Norman may vacate, and an open C spot that Kalil may vacate.   Hopefully BPA matches up with need for those 4 future positions and we get replacement studs.

DE, LT, C, and CB are the most pressing needs we have..certainly not WR or RT (Williams)

We're dealing with BPA...So depending on who we land, SS and WR are the two spots where we could find a starter.

WR: Doctson, Shepard, Boyd (I think they could all be used more than Funch or Ginn early on)

SS: Cash, Killebrew, Cravens

Only positions i see that would be awsome to have day 1 guys are RT and WR.  Remmers did a fine job but could use help there and i know we had a great year on offence but stud recivers always make life easier. Dont see either happening tho.

The D looks stacked.

I think we're going to see Williams take over for Remmers fairly quickly, unless there's a big setback with that knee.  He looks to be a beast on that right side.

Can't really see a rookie starting at any position on our team other than S(P too but I'm not counting that) unless there is an injury. DE and CB have a small chance but you can be sure Ron would go with the vets there at least initially.

No chance at DT, LB, OG, OC, QB, RB or WR and no OT we can actually draft at 30 would be ready by week 1.

There's been nothing to suggest that Williams will be our starter at RT other than Jeremy talking him up. Jeremy's the best media guy I know of and is spot on a lot of times. But there was also guys like Lee Ward... I like Williams and certainly hope that he can be our longterm starter at RT or LT, however I'm not going to assume that'll happen like people here are doing. Both tackle spots should be improved if possible.

I had forgotten about Oher and Kalil. Remmers has a great backup in Darryl Williams and I wouldn't be surprised to see both Oher and Kalil get extensions if the money works out right.

I don't necessarily think we draft a center bug that we get a utilitarian OL who can be flexible along the line. I'm pretty sure Remmers took second team snaps behind Kalil.

I do see us drafting or looking into FA to replace CJ, but if Addison has a big year for us, I think he could replace CJ and get an extension.

Im not sold on Boston yet, so we could see a big competition for his position.

We still have a long time before the draft to sign FAs, I wouldnt rule out us signing more depth at any position but especially at DT or S so that we dont have to start a rookie (unless you count ST as starting). That being said, it would really be a luxury to not have to rush a rookie onto the field right away, and let them develop behind some of the vets on the team right now.

To the original point about a starter being drafted though, I could potentially see a RB being taken who might start if/when JStew gets hurt this year, and as we all know we cannot rule that out in any given year.  I dont see a feature back behind JStew, and we might grab one early and surprise some people with an eye towards a timeshare or a starter by year's end as a contingency plan.

I don't believe that anything is imperative for a defending conference champion that has basically kept all of its roster intact, will presumably be getting its WR1 back, and hopefully a healthy DE with a strong motor that has a good likelihood of returning to form. That being said, a day one starter at any position would be nice, but I'll be satisfied with improvement by the team as a whole from day one through the postseason.

I'm not so hot on drafting a back unless he's high on our draft board and falls to us as a BPA pick. Fizzy showed flashes last year and CAP can't be discounted. Plus we have Tolbert and Wegher are entrenched on the 53-man roster.

I think our best shot at drafting a starter will come at Tre Boston and maybe Remmers positions, that's where I look to see the most competition.

also, I'm thinking Hill finally gets his chance to take Cotchery's spot, so I don't necessarily see is drafting a wideout unless he's BPA.
