Going into the upcoming season, here are a few things to watch for as far as accomplishment or records to be achieved/broken.

With a record of 10-6, the franchise can finish above .500 (176-175-1)

Currently,
New Orleans is .442
Atlanta is .433
Tampa Bay is .385
Which are 3 of 5 of the lowest winning percentages of current teams.

Cam Newton needs the following to be #1 in Franchise history

Yards - 996
Completion - 121
Attempts - 251
Touchdowns - 4
Wins - 9

He needs the following to be #3 all time
Rushing Yards - 129

Jonathan Stewart needs the following to be #1 in Franchise history
Attempts - 150
Yards - 1,033
Touchdowns - 11

What are we now?  3 games below 500?  (Are you only counting reg season?)  I thought that if we'd gone undefeated we were going to hit .500, but I don't remember if that was counting the post-season?

Crazy that we're hopefully looking at the first-ever back-to-back winning seasons for the Panthers.  Building a CONSISTENT winning team seems to be just about on track.  It will be a huge change in culture & expectations for Panthers fans.  I've already seen it happening in the past 3 years.  The Huddle is not the same as it was when I first began lurking in 2012.

---------

DUH... I *CAN* do math.  Been a long two days with some crazy stuff at work.... not thinking clearly.  I can subtract 10-6 from 176-175!

So I presume we're 166-169-1 right now?

Wikipedia says this about our TOTAL overall win % counting the playoffs.  Can someone confirm if it's accurate and up to date?

Quote

counting the playoffs, they have an overall record of 175 wins, 175 losses, and 1 tie (.500 winning percentage).

I'm thinking it's 175-176-1??

Below, there's this table... which looks like it's right, but disagrees with the earlier statement in the same Wiki article:

All-time records

Statistic Wins Losses Ties Win%
Carolina Panthers regular season record 166 169 1 .496
Carolina Panthers post-season record 9 7 .563
All-time regular and post-season record 175 176 1

.499

Yes, thanks, I had just checked PFR to confirm that the 175-176-1 is correct.

Last summer I did some research into comparative NFC South franchise records.  Here what it was for the periods 1995 - 2014 (since Panthers began) or 2002 - 2014.(since Division realignment)

I'll update these tables to include the 2015 W-L info and post it in the next comment.

(these are the verified and corrected tables)

So the tables in the two comments above are now correct, I believe.  I love how we made such gains in comparative records vs. our division rivals last season.

Tomorrow, if I get a chance, I'll post comparative records for all teams over the same time periods.  I already had done the analysis for 1995-2014 and 2002-2014 last summer, so it should be fairly simple to update.

Amazing how in 6 seasons, Cam Newton will have rewritten all the franchise records.

to be fair Carolina hasn't had a consistent starter at QB for more than 6 years at a time

Collins was only on the team for 4 years, Beuerlein on the team for 5 years and Delhomme was a starter for 6 seasons, hurt one and only got in 3 games so its kinda right for him to be busting them in his 6th season...Cam is phenomenal

Here is what the regular season records of all the NFL teams looked like from 1995 - 2014, by conference.  I'll post the update for 2015 tomorrow.  Panthers will obviously move way up in the NFC.

and here's the same data for the league as a whole.  It will be nice to see the comparison as to how far the Panthers moved up following a 15-1 season!

Here's what the 1995 - 2015 Regular Season records look like for all the NFL teams.

With the success we had last season, we moved up from #11 in the NFC to #9.  Damn Falcons.  That one game... if we'd won we would have moved ahead of them.

Hopefully we'll win enough to move up another few places this season.  Given the current make up of our team (great young core), coaching and GM, I don't think that it's an overly homer-istic drug-induced fantasy to think we could be up at #5 or #6, ahead of Falcons, Cowboys, Giants, 49ers, after 2017 with two more strong winning seasons.

Here's the list for the entire league.  We moved up from 20th place, to 17th.  So nice progress, but still lots to keep us humble & HUNGRY.

Not meaning to hijack this thread... and apologies for so many numbers / tables.  But since I just updated all the teams' records, I was also able to update tables I'd done last year showing records within each division since realignment in 2002:

Division_records_2002-2015.png

A couple of notes:  barring some kind of unforeseen disaster, the Panthers should overtake the Saints in 2016 as the leader of the NFC-S since realignment.

We are in the most competitive division by far, followed by the NFC-E (i.e. most parity among teams), each with 3 teams above .500 in the division since realignment and not a lot of distance from best to worst team.  The AFC-N also have 3 teams above .500 in their division, but because of having the Browns in their division, there is a much greater distance between top & worst teams in that division.

Here's how the teams rank since realignment, and then how the divisions rank.  Panthers are in 11th place.

As for divisions, the Panthers winning ways helped bump the NFC-S up one spot in the rankings into 4th place, knocking the AFC-S down into 5th place since realignment.  We're breathing down the necks of the NFC-E for 3rd...
