My first though as well. We are talking a few million in impulse sales. That ain't nearly enough to get them in trouble for tampering. The NFL took in 9.5 billion last year. A few millions is a drop in the bucket. They just want that bucket. Every opportunity to make a buck.

Except the NFL can legally fix games if they wish.   They are an entertainment company just like the WWE and can legally do things like this.   As long as it doesn't involve betting (they aren't directly linked with gambling) they can do whatever they want to generate sales and advertising, which they have obviously done.  In fact, a Jets fan took the NFL to court once about the spygate thing and how the Patriots stole a fair game from him.  The courts ruled that the NFL only has to have a game on that date, and that's it.

That being said, I think creating "plays" is pretty hard, but pushing momentum so a record gets broken a certain week (easier to get stuff out there if you KNOW when it's happening) isn't something I'd put past them.

The NFL is a business and they have an obligation to maximize profits, this story seems a non starter to me other than BSPN doing its usual shoddy turnstile reporting online. Unless they are committing fraud they are doing exactly what any other business does and is designed to do.

Of course but manufacturing stats and  statistical achieve are in the realm of possibility also manufacturing winners and losers to maximize profit. Basically this adds more incentive for them put their hands in games.

That seems highly speculative, reaching a bit.

One of my favorite sports team hoodies is not a Panthers thing, it's a Red Sox hoodie that i bought on Facebook, capturing David Ortiz Grand Slam over the bullpen wall during Game 2 of the ALCS against the Tigers in 2013. Look at Zack and RR making up season specific shirts, etc. and making money from the NFL from it. They want some of that action and I can't blame them.

What's the risk you speak of if they cover their tracks/and have half the people defending their every move anyway?

Idk about you but I don't put anything past greedy billionaires looking to further their bottom line. If you think fixing winners would only get them pennies on the dollar idk what to tell you.

There are too many people who's jobs are on the line, for the people at the top to be able to fix things like this.. Ref's get graded for their performance and are held to a certain standard and put under scrutiny by the players and fans.. Coaches and players have tons of pressure to win or be replaced.. Its hard for me to understand how you could fix things without a certain degree of collusion that i dont think you could have with all of the pressure each person involved faces.  Like others have pointed out, It seems unlikely that the people at the top would risk the integrity of the game, and the others involved would risk their own jobs by trying to do something that is seemingly impossible to pull off without unwanted controversy.

Wow that just sounds like rational thinking to me.

Meh, just finding ways to part you and your money. We're all just happily feeding the beast and they are just finding new opportunities.

At some point there will possibly be injury time outs brought to you by Blue Cross or the Deuterman Law Group -- "Injured in an Collision? We can get you more than 15 yards!"
