Yeah, it's like legitimate two-TE sets are just a myth 'round these parts. They have gone on the endangered list since Shockey left.

Henry would hopefully open up another facet on the offense which I believe would be prolific.

How do you define this?

Edit: was going to wait for your response to add more but decided to just do it now. Dickson played on 54.3% of snaps last year, with Greg 3 snaps short of 100%. Not sure how that wouldn't be "legitimate" two-TE sets when we use them on over half of our plays.

As for Henry, I like him but I'm not totally sold on taking him in the first. He still needs a lot of work as a blocker and will need time to adjust his body to the NFL rigor. In our offense he'd be mainly a blocker with Greg here unless we were to change our philosophy. I badly want a great #2 TE and a future replacement for Greg but I'm not entirely sure it'll come in this draft class. I'd like him at our pick in the 2nd though. Would definitely be an upgrade on Dickson. Just not sure that it'll be an upgrade that warrants a first round pick. If DG takes him though, I'm 150% sold. Didn't like Funch before last draft and was shocked we traded up for him and I was sold by December.

When a defense knows that a TE on the field actually provides an offensive threat as opposed to basically just taking up space.

We know that Henry has exceptional hands. We know that he is an excellent run blocker. We suspect that with coaching he can become a better than average pass protector. Dickson doesn't provide really any of these things and is highly inconsistent on his better days, so no wonder that his production has been very scant. I don't mind skepticism, but Henry reportedly has all the tools and is pretty much consensus starting material from day one. As such he would almost assuredly be poised to play an integral role for us at some point during the season, as well as provide great insurance for Olsen.

This is about the best I've seen on NFL.com: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/hunter-henry?id=2555341

Henry is def at the top of my list of reasonable guys DG will select and who will also benefit this team immediately, as well as down the line. Not too many "experts" had Shaq on their 1st round board, but we did, and turned out to be a pretty brilliant selection.

MHS nailed most reasons, but in addition to those reasons, we were also interested in Eifert back in the '13 draft. Star fell in our lap, but we could've brought in a rookie 1st rounder at TE.  We were also one of the teams vying for Jared Cook in FA, so TE has been on our radar for a few seasons.  Depending on how the latter part of the 1st round falls, HH  would be a welcomed selection.

Shula, Cam, Olsen and Henry would create nightmares for opposing defenses.

Nope, I'm a Mississippi State fan and watched him destroy us twice and a couple of other teams that I saw him play against. I think he is the best TE talent in the last 5 years and would be All Pro in a Shula offense.

We have faaaaaaar different  opinions, if you believe he's the best talent and I got him as 3rd rounder. I got a couple of questions - If the panthers had a top five/ten pick, would you be all for picking him there, give your statements?

What's your opinion of Chase Coffman? He reminds me of hunter, in fact I believed he was the better prospect. He won all sort of awards, nations best TE, all-murcian, first-team etc etc.(same as hunter). Plus his weight is around 250(lololol), same as hunter. Chase was featured on hard knocks, he was terrible. If not for him being drafted in 3rd and the TE coach was his dad's friend, he'd been among first cuts. Since he's bounced around on a few teams, somehow.

Lastly- now I'm not a bench guy, but hunter put up only 13 reps. He'd been better passing on the drill. I could take my out-of-shape, beer gut, social smoking, long arms to my weights. Dust them off and put up 6 clean reps and more if use the bounce tech. Combine that with him @250 he will have trouble blocking the old church ladies form the golden corral buffet.

I really like Tyler Higbee from Western Kentucky. He missed the combine due to injury but had his pro day today and reportedly looked good despite not doing any tests, just field drills, since he still isn't fully recovered from a knee injury. Henry is definitely better than Higbee, but I don't know that he is significantly better. The value of Higbee in the 3rd or 4th might be higher than the value of Henry in the 1st.

we didn't lose the superbowl because our offense wasn't dangerous enough. We lost the superbowl because our offense made a truckload of uncharacteristic mistakes and because of Von Miller. If anything you should revise your statement to "people who can catch in the Super Bowl" is what we need right now.

I can find two articles about two other TEs in the draft that are praising of them too.

And I care... why? Again, this is the weakest TE class in almost a decade. There's no gap between Henry and the next prospect who is slated to go in the third round.

Sorry, Cravens, Dodd, Bullard, Treadwell, etc could be there at 30. Hunter doesn't hold a jockstrap to ANY of them. Try again.

Your saying there is no gap is at odds with multiple professionals.

I think that some of you are just zeroing in on his catching skills (which are great).

I would have no problems taking him at 30 and he would be All Pro level in our offense. Greg Olsen was All Pro and is not noted for his blocking. At top 10 we have more pressing needs like a rush DE, OT or CB. But we are drafting at 30 and he may not even be on the board at that point. Let's look at our draft and see where he is in 5 years. I'm not a fan of Lawson due to medical issues, The OSU DE was handled in big games see the Sugar Bowl and Bedlam, Doodle looks like a guy who had a big half of a year and no CB or S is worth that pick. That leaves us with a DC that won't start or a developmental OL. I'm fine with Henry at 30.
