This guy has been a journeyman. Why do we get excited every time he comes available?

He was traded out of nowhere by Chip with some post-move controversy...so technically this is the first time outside the draft he's been available. About 2 seasons ago, the big question in Philly was if he would be worth ~8 million a season because of his play or if he was too much of a NB to invest that much in.

If we had KB in the SB we wouldn't have looked so inept on offense

You're right and wrong at the same time, although i'm sure kb would have man handled denver's man coverage he does have the dropsies at times. The think is bringing in a vet guy as insurance wouldn't hurt, especially a high character guy like boldin, jericho disappointed and if asked to,couldn't fill the number 1 let alone number 2 spot, boldin could if needed even james jones.

Getty apparently doesn't quite share your complacency, as receiver is obviously a concern being how many we have had visits/workouts with for the past few weeks.

Everyone is counting on KB to come back and crush it, but he is coming back from a bad injury, as is Hill, and there is absolutely no guarantee that either will be good-as-new upon returning. Furthermore, they still have suspect hands until they prove otherwise. Unfortunately, dropped balls were  arguably one of the main reasons (if not the main reason) why we weren't dancing---Cam included---after the Super Bowl.

Upgrading a litttle to get over that hump is a reasonable expectation.

Dawg, the WR group is by no means one of the best in the league but I don't agree that it's "obviously a concern" at all, or that we need it to be any better. Visits/workouts mean absolutely nothing. Of course DG is looking to upgrade every single position and should be and we should absolutely bring competition in. But WR is not nearly as important as other positions we need help at. We were the #1 scoring with what we trotted out last year. The Super Bowl was just a terrible game all around and I don't agree at all the drops were a main reason, and we had mistakes from guys who never make mistakes. Was just a bad day to have a bad day. DG isn't one to make rash decisions based on one game. We have way more important positions than WR and OT to get back next year and win it even though that game suggested those were our two main weaknesses.

No he hasn't been. This is the first time he's ever hit free agency. He was among the best nickel CBs for the Eagles since being drafted in 2012 and before last season was traded to the Steelers to get something out of him instead of him walking in FA to a team who'd give him opportunities on the outside.

We're not "set" at any position. You don't evaluate and make conclusions based on one game. We were the #1 offense with those WRs. There are bigger priorities.

Possible that I'm misunderstanding you, but Cotchery was the biggest offender at WR during that game and he's gone now so I'm not sure what your point is. Competition is absolutely welcome and upgrades always possible but Cam threw for 194 yards to WRs not named Cotchery on only 10 receptions, 265 yards total on the day before sacks.

Re: Boykin, he would be a solid additon but I'm not holding my breath.

Same could be said for QB if we are playing this game.

Cam tied a SB record for over throws with 10, and completed 31% of his passes when pressured.

Do you think that we are set at QB?  I certainly do, we just poo the bed in the worst time possible.

Reasons I am optimistic we will sign him:

  • Voth says we're really interested
  • He's a great Nickel CB
  • He has allegedly shown interest in us from the start
  • We need Nickel depth
  • He could compete with Bene as our outside #2 guy. "Loser" becomes our slot, but the team wins regardless
  • Having him as depth would mean we have some insurance and depth pending Norman's upcoming contract.

Reasons I am pessimistic we won't sign him:

  • Gettleman might not give him the money he wants
  • He has 3 other teams he wants to meet with, including his hometown team Atlanta
  • Gettleman might be straight with him and tell him he'd be a nickel no matter what.
  • We won't get into a bidding war
  • Signing people costs Money and Gettleman likes to keep it
  • Signing him could potentially mean negative things towards keeping KK or some other major contributor long term (although this is unlikely because he shouldn't command enough money, it's still a concern in the back of my mind)

Ultimately I really want him but I'm not holding my breath or getting my hopes up.

Well, we'll have to just disagree then. The Panthers are a strong team all around. Getty has used this offseason to address some obvious issues, and if we can sign Boykin it would be great, and resigning Love would make things even better. Both would go a long way towards helping Getty work out his philosophy. Assuming these two things happen, that would leave Safety as the obvious hole. After SS, what G-man does is anyone's guess, but I don't believe that he is working out guys for no reason (double negative intended). Sure he wants to generally upgrade each position (as you say), but I believe there is a definite method to his approach which sheds light if one reads between the lines.

Lastly, I don't believe that the Super Bowl is being used in-and-of-itself to make any decisions, much less rash ones. Most of the visits that we've had have been even before Gettleman looked at the tape of the game (if he has even broken it down at this point).

At the end of the day, we will see what transpires, and won't have to debate it.
