There's truth to this, but that 70 mil in cap space for next year is deceptive because we have so many players whose contracts expire next year.

Among our current starters, there are 10 (compared with 4 this season):

  • Brown, Philly

  • Coleman, Kurt

  • Ginn, Jr., Ted

  • Johnson, Charles

  • Kalil, Ryan

  • Norman, Josh

  • Norwell, Andrew

  • Oher, Michael

  • Remmers, Mike

  • Short, Kawann

Among our role players, there are 8 (same as this season)

  • Addison, Mario

  • Horton, Wes

  • Jacobs, Ben

  • Jones, Colin

  • Klein, A.J.

  • Waters, Swayze

  • Whittaker, Fozzy

  • Williams, Teddy

Among our backups /.depth there are 5  (same as this season)

  • Bersin, Brenton

  • Hill, Stephen

  • McClain, Robert

  • Robinson, Trenton

  • Scott, Chris

So, that's 23 guys from our 53 (43%) that need to be re-signed next year or replaced, but 10 starters.  Ouch.  That's gonna eat up a lot of that 70 mil, as will trying to resign guys whose contracts will end in 2018 before they become free agents (Star, Bene, KB (we have the 5th year option for him), Ealy, Stew, Turner, Norwell...

Only 4 of the 22 starters on our roster (Cam, Luke, Greg, Shaq)  are currently locked up beyond 2018.  DG has a TON of work to do in the next 12-18 months!!!!  YIKES.

You make me sad.  I mean I was aware of Most of this, but seeing it in list format really harshes my calm.

If we draft well that list is cut in half. If our players last year develope it's even less.

Is Cam or Luke on that list? No....okay we are good then.

In 2010 their band of merry rednecks invaded BOA and crushed Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike, much to their delight.  This helped seal their fate for a generation or more with the drafting of Cameron Jerrell Newton with the #1 overall pick.

Hell we liked Brandin Cooks too.  But not enough to draft over KB if given the choice and d@mn sure not enough to trade a 3rd that could have been the Big Easy's own Trai Turner.  Can't fix stupid.

I was at that game, so many band wagoners. So many kids in Bush and Brees jerseys.

I am not really being serious (mainly because the amount of resources we would waste doing that would be incredible) but more offering out there in an imaginary but not completely unrealistic Kafkaesque type of strategy by our front office

Oh yeah, I know. I am of the belief that we do send scouts to check out guys we aren't sold on, not to "trick" our division rivals, but to confirm that this prospect is in fact, "not our guy". Sometimes you need the live eye test and if it happens to throw off the other teams then that's just an added bonus.

Copy and paste this for every successful team in the league. That's just part of the business, no? I'd say this is the exciting part of being a GM...getting to figure out how to lock up great players to long-term deals. The flip side is having plenty of money and no one worth extending. I'd choose the former.

And this is exactly why I'm not gonna worry about any of this, and let nippleshorts do his magic. I think he's proven he can handle any situation pretty much.
