[Updated] Josh Norman Oklahoma Drill Interview AND Dameshek video

He's not getting paid for the past,  3 so-so years and 1 big year.  He's getting paid for the next 3-5 years.  There's no reason to believe he's going to revert to first 3 year production.  The assumption is that the next 3-5 year will be like his most recent example.

That's reasonable and completely to be expected.  I don't blame him one bit.  Nothing he has said has been far fetched in the slightest.

I love josh but he needs to get paid somewhere wlse. Itll be best for both parties envolved.

Look at 2013 and our beast defense. We were #2 because pf pur beast front 7.  Thats where the money needs to go. That seconday wasnt good.

Its not hard to fond a good CB for a zone blitz scheme that doesnt bteak the bank. Im not hating on Josh at all! I totally get what hes doing and Im happy for him. Ive always lobbied for him to break out in the past, but Gettleman is going to do whats best for this team, and paying huge money on a shitdown corner isnt whats best. Theres a reason some people talked poo about josh that hes a really good zone corner and thats it... Its because we run zone the majority of the time folks..

I get where he's coming from.  He thinks he's the best and wants to be paid like it.  I can't hate on that.

I recently left a job I liked working for people that I liked supporting products that I liked because I knew I was worth more than they were paying me.  I took a look around and got an offer for 50% more.  I brought the offer to them and they couldn't even come close.  No hard feelings, but I gotta go.  They completely understood and I understood why they couldn't offer me more.  Business is business.  We wished each other luck and still stay in touch

Here's the danger, however. Just because someone can pay you far more doesn't mean it's a slam dunk situation. There's value being somewhere where the pay may not match performance but everything else is better than what you'll find elsewhere. Your new coworkers may be more frustrating to work with or you find out the organization has problems beneath the surface.

If top money is what Norman really wants, then I don't think he'll find it here. I'm sure a Miami or Cleveland will give him that but he better realize the real possibility that he won't be playing games in January, his behavior could be less tolerated in a new environment or his performance nosedives because he doesn't fit the system in place. Some players are fine with that but just look at Ted Ginn as someone that found out the hard way that this may be the best place for him.

I don't get people saying that Josh is making crazy comments. What exactly is so crazy?

Well, he did say he was a top 5 CB of all time recently. I think that qualifies. Got to do it for more than 1.5 seasons to even start the all time talk.

That, and he said he's the #1 CB in the world right now, on the linked article.  I love the guy, and think he's been a great corner the past 1.5 seasons, but that's just silly talk.

I want Josh to get paid. He deserves a huge contract..he's earned it. I also know Josh won't be here after this year, and that's fine. No problems with anything Josh is saying. Business is business. It's never personal...well in this situation it won't be. I will still be a J No fan once he leaves next year.

I didn't mention that I work remotely and my new employer is consistently rated as one of the top 100 companies to work for and offers much better benefits.  Factoring in the benefits package, I'm making well over that 50% bump.

You're right though, there's no guarantee that more money = better move.  Josh is gonna be a very rich man soon anyway.  If I was in his shoes, I'd rather take a little less and play for a contender than take a little more and end up in Cleveland or somewhere like that.

Athletes say stuff all the time. They also tell you that they have to believe that in the same breath.

This interview here speaks more pointedly to his contractual expectations, and I really don't see anything outlandish in his words or thoughts.

All that being said, if they can work it all out, I am all for it. If they can't, then no hard feelings. Josh wouldn't be the first to be traded, hold out, or play on the tag.

Again, Norman killed it and I won't deny how awesome he is and I love having him on the team. But notice how much less of an impact he had going forward when teams knew to avoid him. Just the nature of the CB position (in my opinion).

Read all your above posts and agree w pretty much everything you've said, but playing a little devils advocate here, not sure it's fair to say Josh wasn't having an impact once teams started to avoid him tho.....essentially taking away one side of the field is definitely an underrated help to the defense overall.

That being said, I agree our money should be going towards other players.  Got the QB on O and D, next on the priority list is hog mollies. Hands down if you ask me.

Very good point, and it probably is a luxury that we got used to this past season not really worrying about whoever Josh was covering. We won't really know unless he leaves.

Everyone loves the cocky swagger until it comes to contract time.

Or until they go to play for another team.

I have no issue with Norman chasing a payday, but good teams base contracts on what you will do, not what you have done

Naturally, a player's position is going to be that they'll keep doing what they've done already and/or get better, but that's not always the case.  This is especially true for players prepping to hit thirty.

As the saying goes, past performance is not an indicator of future success.

I'm with Voth in thinking that Norman will end up playing out this year under the tag and may well end up gone next year.  Of course, the great thing for us is knowing we have a good GM who can plan for these things.

That we did, but When Kuechly came back, it was pretty evident who the best defensive player on the team was.

I very much so agree with this.  Now it's POSSIBLE to have a great defense that's built on the secondary, like Seattle had for awhile, but it requires some truly top notch talent across the entire secondary - which is 5 players when you include a nickel back.  And that's not even mentioning that such a strategy requires you to get away with penalties regularly because the refs won't call it every time.

On the other hand, you can't gameplan as easily around star talent in the trenches and at the second level.  Those guys have a chance to impact almost every play.

This I'm still trying to figure it out.  Only one I can think of is saying that he's a top 5 corner of all time.  Everything else he says doesn't seem to cocky honestly

And frankly if he's outplaying the highest paid corners for the last year and a half he should be paid on the same level. Gotta respect where he's come from.  And after Jenkins got 14 mil I see NO reason  why josh shouldn't get more.  It just won't be from us, enjoy his last year and keep building for continued success
