Come on, Mr. Scot, you know it's not that simple. Not saying that Payton deserves all that money (or not), but the Saints have remained mostly competitive during his tenure. Sure, they've been a train wreck of late, but there are lots of dynamics going on there---on and off the field.

Personally, I have never liked his defenses, but I still can't take anything from Payton (regardless if they were almost handed the Superb Owl on a silver platter via the NFC championship).

Loomis actually needs to fire himself before anyone.

My question would be this: Which of the dynamics that have been making the team a train wreck are likely to get better anytime in the next few years?

The GM needs a change and, quite naturally, the HC likely follows the GM out the door, but I believe that this says more about Loomis than Payton. We all know that in the event he were fired, he wouldn't be unemployed for long. The same can't be said of Loomis.

If you look back, my original comment was more about Loomis than Payton.

Payton's a great offensive coach.  I'm not so certain he's a great head coach, especially as it pertains to the staff building aspet of that position.

Yeah, I thought about that and was going to mention it, but got sidetracked by the wife. Your comment in fact could be taken as more about the failings of Loomis as a GM than Payton as HC.

Glad we don't have those kinds of problems.

I'll say it since nobody else is stating the obvious.

Sean Peyton is the best HC in the history of the Saints franchise. He STILL is  good coach.

The Saints couldn't get a better HC if they tried.

Yes, t he Saints has been a train wreck, and they've been handicapped by lacknof talent on defense for many years, but they are close to turning it around. Their cap struggles will be a moot point sooner, rather than later.

No matter where he'd coach, he'd be one of, if not the highest paid coach in the league.

Payton is one of the smartest offenses minds in the nfl, people seem to forget the Saints had a case for being the worst franchise in  nfl history before Payton and Bree's arrived.

We seem to be throwing stones from glass houses, criticizing a coach whose won a SB and has been competitive on a more consistent basis.

This is equivalent to if we had given Foxy a five year extension after the 2010 season. What the hell are they thinking? It's not Sean, it's never been Sean. It's always been moleface pulling it out of his ass. Brees only has a few years of high level play left before he retires, it's time to draft a QB high and clean house from top to bottom if you're the Saints*. Then again, this is the Saints* we're talking about here so I'm not surprised. Hey, we're up to our necks in debt, lets give our HC who hasn't been relevant for quite a while now an overpriced contract so we can send him home with a nice paycheck in two or three years! Let 'em, easier pickings for us.

Can anyone else see Manziel landing in New Orleans and sitting behind Brees for a few years?  I'm sure he and Peyton would be great together on Bourbon St...

Beyond the idea that Manziel in NOLA would be akin to putting a smack addict in charge of a hospital pharmacy....

I could see it.  Putting him in a situation like that might be the only way to salvage an NFL career for the boy.

More importantly here. . . their organization has now declared to go offensive with their strategy for the next 5 years, but have a QB that can only play effectively for another 2?

Sooooo good luck finding another QB, have fun with that. Hows their cap looking btw? Yep theyre set for the future.
