The part about his biggest concerns are when his back is turned, and the ball is in the air. Considering this is a passing league, the ball is going to be in the air quite a bit. If this is the weakest part of his game, that does sound ominous.

Maybe we can get a CB that has eyes in the back of his head. I am now worried about not having enough CBs that can play with their backs to the QB. lol

Cam loves teams that play man over zone. Precisely because the CBs spend a lot of time with their backs to him.

And RR plays a lot of zone precisely so his CBs can see the QB.

But cereally. I want a DT in the 1st. After that, I don't care what Gman does after that. This kid sounds intriguing for sure. But there are quite a few of these type CBs this year. There is lots of talent in the 1st 3 rounds. If things go to plan. We should be adding at least 3 talented kids. I can live with that.

I do wonder what Gman's list looks like. What positions he values over others. We know he loves him some Mollies, and LBs. But what does he truly feel about WRs, and DBs? So ima gonna give a shot at picking his wish list.

1. D-line. His heart beats a little faster when he just knows there is a D-lineman on his radar.

2. O-line. Right up there with the D-line. Especially at OT. But if he has 2 guys rated similarly 1 a DL, and 1 an OL, he will go D-line 1st.

3. QB. He knows that you cannot be competitive without one. Thankfully, he has no worries in that department.

4. LBs. Both he, and RR, love these guys. They can cover a lot of mistakes if you have good ones. If they had their druthers. They'd druther have 6 of these that can all play. For us, you can never have enough LB talent.

5. WR, and CB. Even after 3 years, I still have no clue how Gman really feels about these guys. Sure he has drafted KB, and Fun Fun the last few years. But was that out of necessity? Or were they really BPA? I have a feeling it was more the former. We needed some young talent. So he brought some in. But it is still unclear what he thinks about these 2 positional groups.

He has never taken a DB before the 5th round. And KB, and Fun Fun are the only 2 WR he has even drafted. Are they like the red headed step child? Or is it more that the talent just wasn't there at the pick? With the real possibility of losing Josh next year. I would not be surprised if we actually do draft a CB higher than normal this year.

Sorry, got carried away. Again. Thanks for the patience.

Yea personally I want kevin dodd at 30 but im having doubts hell fall to us

At 30, if the DE we want is there, we take him, other than that, I'd like to trade back with someone in the top ten who wants to get a QB before Denver, then taking Jackson would match very well with the value.  Course we could have him rated as a top 15 player or a 3rd rounder, but I like him for sure

I'm not sure about this guy.  I looked at some of his games on Draft Breakdown, and while he had some good stats, a lot of his big plays seemed to come after he was beaten (sometimes badly) but the QB horribly underthrew the pass.  He does seem to have the requisite skill set to be a good CB, but I just didn't like how often he seemed to get beaten.  Maybe he just needs some technique work, I don't know.  If we take him, I'll assume the coaches see enough to work with, but otherwise I'm not getting too excited about him.

As much as I want a DT in the 1st. I wouldn't hate a DE either. I just think we have too many kids at DE that we already need to look at this year. But if Gman likes a DE, and thinks he can contribute. I guess I wouldn't whine for very long.

The main thing about trading out of the 1st is losing that 5th year option. If you get a good one, that 5th year option is huge. I mean, look at Stah. Without that 5th year. We would have both him and KK to resign in the next year. That 5th year option gives us time to work with Stah. Would hate to lose that option is why I would hate to move out of the 1st.

That said. If some team makes it worth our while to trade out. Then you have to seriously look at the deal. But it had better be sweet to lose that 5th year option.

Rather sign a vet. 31 needs to be a DE

See, Chucky agrees with me. Wait...I read that wrong.

We have too damm many kids at DE already. We don't need to muddy the waters any more than it already is. We absolutely need a young stud DT to guard against the possibility of losing KK when his deal comes due. I know Gman is already saving for this rainy day. But KK very well, with another monster year, could price himself out of Panther Land.

I could settle for a Vet DT. Cuz I trust Gman to take care of KK. But bringing in a stud kid? Now that would make us better. Keep that rotation strong. Now that, I could live with.

KK ain't going anywhere. Anything he'll be under the Franchise tag. Plus we got Soliai.

We we don't have any damn young DEs. Alexander is gone. CJ is old. Addison isn't an every down DE. And Horton, the kid that was cut like 8 times last season. A DE will be drafted at 31.

This is the damn position that forced us to trade for a washed up Jared Allen last season.

I agree, KK isn't going anywhere.  G-Man loves his d-linemen and KK is the heart of that defensive line.  However, we do need a backup for him.  Love and Soliai are the same player, no need to keep both.  So it's possible we'll draft a DT, just not in the first.

As for our DE depth.  Like you said, Alex is gone, CJ is old, but depending on how he performs this year, he might stick around for another year or two.  Horton is gone, so that leaves Cox, Miley, Webster, and Delaire.  Delaire I think is safe because the kid has potential.  Both Miley & Cox performed well in the pre-season.  Very curious to know how they do this year.  They may surprise somebody, or at least one will. I was actually hoping we would draft Webster the year he came out.  Performed very well at the combine, good size, and frame.  He could be one of those players that just plays better with a different team, giving the right coaching staff.  Honestly, if we don't draft a DE, it wouldn't surprise me.  It could mean that they're comfortable with the depth we have and believe one of those guys may show out.

Either way, ATM, I see us taking a DE in 1st.

I like how you just gloss over the DEs on the team. Addison just might take that next step this year. Delaire has shown he needs a good look. Miley and Cox are kids they love. And then there is Webster. That is a whole lot of "We need a good look at this kid' kids.

I just don't see us adding another kid to the mix. But hey. Maybe we get lucky, we do seem to be getting lucky a lot lately, and the DE we get can actually contribute. What you gon do with all those kids?

And we have kids all over the place. Except DT.

You were doing so well there. Then that finish!?

Now Gman has already said he has taken KK, and Stah into consideration. So I agree we plan on keeping both. But if KK takes another step up. We may not be able to afford him. Franchise him once, whooopie. We could lose him. I hope we can sign him before he breaks the bank. That's what I am hoping for anyway.

Which is why I say DT in the 1st. We have no kids there, and could use some insurance against losing KK. I like the thought of a DE. I just don't think it's prudent. Not with all those kids sitting there waiting on a chance.

Most of these posts still assume we will take guys at a position of need and Gettleman has shown he really will go BPA. So conversations about taking a DE or DT because we need one really don't add up based on what I have seen in the past. For example who saw linebacker at a position of need last year?   If we go DE or DT they really will be the BPA at a position the we covet and value highly not at the position of biggest need. That we will try to fill in free agency or later in the draft when BPA can go a lot of ways and need may become more of a deciding factor. But first or second round not so much. About the only position off the table is likely QB.

Just a quick correction, Horton is still around.  Even though he was a roster casualty last year due to his suspension and there then being no spot open to bring him back, due to our having signed Finnegan & McClain, we re-signed him to a one-year contract back in Feb.

http://www.panthers.com/news/article-2/Panthers-sign-DE-Wes-Horton/e88691f2-2000-465d-aade-9801580ffe92

Granted he's not a great pass-rusher.  But he's solid against the run, and he has all that starting experience from 2014 when we lost Hardy.  So, he's solid backup.

Given that Miley was on the IR all last season, he's got to be pretty far back on the depth chart, though it's clear the team was excited about him and was determined to find a way to keep him last season.  Delaire shows some promise, but once teams saw some film on him he had less of an impact.  Hoping a year on the PS has Cox ready to challenge for a spot.  Don't know much about Webster...

So, yeah, I'd be very on board with us drafting a DE high.  I'm assuming that unless there is clearly a better player that drops to us, we'll be taking someone like Dodd, Ogbah or Bullard.
