He was good but our secondary still sucked in coverage, one of the reason we lost in the playoffs vs 49rs.

We lost in the playoffs cause of that bullshit zone McDerm runs. Wilson and Kaep carved it up 2013 and 2014. Denver runs man and let their front 3-4 get busy. Thats how you win a SB

And they got exposed in the games we lost and the playoffs. A good front 7 does hide weaknesses but u can't expect them to dominante every game and every play, every weakness can exploited some way in football. 2013 vs. 2014 is even a big difference and we went to the superbowl with this unit. I think it's pretty clear at this point we are not gonna win a superbowl with a mediocre secondary  and nor should we settle. Gettleman knows this and he will put more talented back there.

Even when they got 'exposed' the games were still competitive, with the offense sputtering as they did against San Fran. A dominant front 7, and particularly a monster DL, is the ultimate trump card in the NFL. The Broncos are Exhibit A of this, as their 'awesome' secondary still gave up 265 passing yards on only 18 completions with coverage hardly a deciding factor against Carolina.

And point proven, that sorry secondary secondary had back then couldn't play man.

Didnt Josh say he wouldn't hold out. I think he's a man of his word

Pretty sure he meant for training camp. OTAs and minicamps are fair game. This was the expected result anyway. Not really a big deal. No one does the offseason stuff if they haven't signed their tag and are negotiating a long term deal. If he still doesn't have a deal on 7/16 then I expect him to sign the tag and show up.

But that is one thing we pride our team on.. Everybody shows up for Offseason work..

A nasty front 7 can make an average back 4 look really good and that's where G-man is going to continue to build. Norman is a great corner but I really don't see us paying him in the Revis range.

Too bad our pass rush was non existent for more than half the season and Norman was still shutting down his side of the field, no safety help, no pass rush, Norman got the job done

I say pay the man, its WAAAY harder to find a shut down corner than it is to find a pass rusher.

Title is a bit misleading. He hasn't done anything to indicate he would miss any team activities at this point.

I saw on Twitter that Joe Person had a similarly titled article at the Observer.   Haven't read it yet, but I'm assuming it's mere speculation at this point.

With no progress in contract talks & unsigned franchise tender, Josh Norman could miss OTAs. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/carolina-panthers/article67388292.html

Josh has said he wouldn't hold out.  For now I'll take his word against any guessing by Person.

It is troubling that we might lose Josh to a hold out.  I think we all have really grown to love his personality as well as his play.  Hopefully the contract situation can be addressed so he doesn't miss much time.  I seem to think there is some correlation between players who miss significant time in contract holdouts tend to be less productive the following season.

Does this mean we could use another quality corner?  Sure thing.  I saw this, which I'm sure had been linked before.  I like the way he describes his approach to the position.

I think a deal gets done...4 years at maybe $55 million with $37-38 million guaranteed. DG can spread the cap hit over the 4 years with right at $10 million a season or pay out the guaranteed money over the first 2 years of the deal.  We currently have $20 million in salary cap and that's with the franchise tag of $13 million for JNO and $9 million in dead money. So paying JNO $20-25 in the first year or maybe more and decrease the cap hit next year when Kawan's deal kicks in would be a way to go.

What is there to really be concerned about?  Love Josh, but i trust the FO.

Getts will not overpay simply to keep one guy.  I want Norman here, badly.  If it doesn't happen then I will rest easy knowing Josh/Dave each made a financial decision.

I'm comfortable with however it plays out.
