Son of a Beach Mock 2016

SON OF A BEACH that annual mock thing I do with visual aids...
natasha-barnard-sports-illustrated-2013-

-I’m just going to hold off on any additional FA predictions...these picks aren’t necessarily by round but just 5 guys I can see us picking.

Draft:

1. Josh Doctson WR TCU 6’2 202

Others considered: Bullard (DE/DT), Lawson (DE), Vernon Butler (DT)

We would make this offense insanely lethal by adding a Doctson or Boyd and I can see WR being the pick with a lot of defensive talent going early.  As far as I’m concerned--he was the best WR in college football last season.

2. Willie Henry DT Michigan 6’3 ~297-303

Others considered: Sterling Shepard (WR)(trade-up), Cravens (S/LB), Burns (CB), S. Calhoun (DE)

From what I’ve read has a good head on his shoulders, it’s rare that he gives up when a play gets to the second level, his HS coach was Ted Ginn’s dad, and have seen him compared to a Star-in progress with a high pass rush ceiling.  He was at 1, 3 and 5 tech at Michigan.  He’s a big school lineman and also insanely confident.  I think we’re covered at DT with this pick.  He could be a 1st rounder but maybe even in the 3rd because of this DT class.

3. Jeremy Cash SS Duke 6’0 212

Others considered: Kenneth Dixon (RB),

Awesome in run support, fierce attitude, ACC Defensive Player of the Year, this guy screams Panther in my opinion.

4. Matt Judon DE Grand Valley State 6’3 275

He’s flying under the radar but the kid absolutely lit it up in college.  Was clearly in his own league compared to his competition so the transition could take some time but I think this is a type of 4-3 base end prospect we target.  Broad shoulders, powerful and quick off the snap.  (+another conference defensive player of the year)

5. Leshaun Sims CB Southern Utah 6’0 203

DG snags a late-round CB with a ton of upside that shouldn’t be limited in our defensive packages.  Sims is an intriguing talent.

I like the first 3 picks a lot. Don't know much about the other two.

With Judon, we went to his pro-day and had a private workout with him  Here's a good write-up:

He had a private workout with the Carolina Panthers last week and, over the next eight days, will work out individually with representatives from the New England Patriots, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

He had 21 sacks in 2015.

Started doing some research on Judon, I must say, he's growing on me.

Yeah, the kid seems to have a ton of promise.  A lot more than the big school kids with question marks here and there.

Not that big of a fan of Dotson when looking at what we already have on the roster..

I was tempted to go with some others but I just love seeing the receivers that really seem to understand how to go up and get the ball.  He's got that trait.

Doctson can be a great compliment to KB in my opinion so we may have to agree to disagree.  Funch can be a chess piece...Josh kinda reminds me of a tough+more athletic Jordy Nelson for some reason.

My opinion is we have the big go up and get it guys.. if i'm looking at WR'S.. I want to diversify our offense and get the speedy quick guy who is dangerous in space and can take a screen or a short slant to the house..

A shifty speedy guy could be tempting.  I don't know if Shepard would completely fit that mold but could be closer to that compliment.  I'm not a big Coleman fan.  Pharoh Cooper maybe.

But with Doctson, he's a go get it type..but like Landry or Beckham seemed like to be at LSU.  Different styles though.  He's a split-end/downfield receiver.

He doesn't have the speed to be a true down field wr.. I see more of A Landry possession Wr in Doctson not a OBJ..

I'm not saying he's like OBJ in type.  I'm talking about the eagerness he displays to extend and fight for the ball.  Style wise, he's a split end/downfield type in the mold of a Jordy Nelson.  Good enough speed with strong technique and ball skills.  IMO: Think of a Cody Latimer that was actually NFL ready.
