Jerry Richardson has a bum shoulder

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson will miss the NFL’s annual meetings in Florida this week to have shoulder surgery in Charlotte, team officials said Saturday.

It’s believed to be the second time Richardson will have missed the meetings since bringing a NFL team to the Carolinas in 1995. He was unable to attend the 2009 meetings in California less than two months after Richardson had a heart transplant.

Panthers President Danny Morrison will represent the team in Richardson’s absence in Boca Raton, according to spokesman Steven Drummond. The Carolina contingent is expected to arrive Sunday in Florida for the meetings, which will run through Wednesday.

Richardson, who will turn 80 in July, was in New York last week for a retirement party for a league official.

Gotta have that shoulder strong for when he lifts the Lombardi next feb. smart move by him to get the surgery done in the offseason. Gives him enough time to rehab it. Luckily he can do a little light lifting two weeks prior to the super bowl when he lifts the Halas trophy again.

I've got a bum shoulder too, problem is I'm not a billionaire nor able to afford obamacare to do anything about it.

BTW's I've only got one working arm and it's the one with a shredded rotator cuff.

even if I had surgery who's volunteering to wipe my ass for 6-8 weeks?

So we should list him as Out for the NFL meetings. He'll probably be Doubtful for the draft, so we should put him on the PUP list. That way he doesn't take up a roster spot for summer OTAs. Then activate him off the PUP list if he's Probable for Fan Fest. We'll need him there to set the tone for the season.

He wore #51 at Wofford College, and Sam Mills wore #51 for the Panthers. This year will be the 51st Super Bowl.. Hope it's serendipity

If the shoulder procedure could have been scheduled at any time, it’s not much of a surprise Richardson scheduled it for this week. He emerged from the January get-together on the short end of the Los Angeles vote, with his preferred alternative of the Chargers and Raiders in Carson soundly defeated by the membership, even though the committee Richardson essentially ran voted 5-1 to choose Carson over the Rams and Inglewood.
