If Cam maintains his rushing TD average he'll move into the top 45 in the next 2 seasons and top 15 in the next 5 seasons. 14 of the top 16 are HOF RBs

11 of the top 15 are current HOFers, 2 of which are almost assuredly 1st ballot HOFers when eligible (Tomlinson, Peterson). Either way, they're guaranteed HOFers... so 13 HOF RBs in the top 15. Jim Taylor, at #16 is also in the HOF. Worth mentioning is Shaun Alexander (tied 7th with Marshall Faulk), who could eventually get into the HOF. So "potentially" 15 of the top 16 are HOF RBs.

Granted Cam still has a ways to go, but it was something interesting I noticed after looking over the all time rushing TD leaders and seeing Cam already so high in the ranks. Even if he only has 3 more "prime" rushing TD years, that's around 27-28 more rushing TDs to add to his already 43 total... which would put him at 70+ and inside the top 30. He would be 29 by that time, usually the peak of the athletic prime.

Seeing that QBs generally have longer shelf lives in the league and rightfully assuming his rushing TD production drops off... he would still theoretically have plenty of time to shoot up the list. For example, Tom Brady, age 38, has averaged 1.8 rushing TDs per year since 2012. Drew Brees, age 37, has averaged 1.6 rushing TDs per year since 2012. Funnily enough, these QBs rushing TD average actually went up as they got older.

Cam, already averaging by far more rushings TDs per year than any QB in history could be assumed to average more than 1.8 per year even after his prime athletic years barring injury or him completely falling off a cliff and out of the league.

Hypothetically cut his rushing TD average in half after those "prime" years, and at that pace he should still break into the top 15 within the next 7-8 years, where he would be 33-34 years old.

Made this same thread over on the main NFL reddit page... lol people just can't handle the thought of the possibility of this happening.  Of Cam entering HOF RB territory - as a QB.

poo got immediately downvoted with multiple posts of how it's not possible (even though I broke down pretty clearly how it is indeed very possible) and that it's not going to happen because he's gonna get hurt, etc.

95% didn't even read the actual breakdown, just went straight to "lol not gonna happen".

Seattle fans over there are salty as fug about anything Cam.

Think this is the record for longest thread title on the huddle.

Well we're talking about records, so it's fitting I guess.

Lol just wanted to go ahead and get the main point out the way with the title so the post wasn't overly-bloated.

edit: there, shortened it up a bit

Truly is a sight to behold, turning the rest of the fan bases in the NFL into jealous little school girls. What a time to be a Panthers fan. #KeepPounding

This thread is like how my grandmother writes emails, where she just puts everything in the subject line.

Yeah, except you know, the long relevant list in the OP then paragraphs breaking down the subject in the following post.

But by all means, continue the circle-jerk.  I guess I could've made a more cryptic title like "Cam Rushing Touchdowns..." instead so people dive in blind.

i haven't been over to /r/nfl in a long time; i mean like not since week 3 or 4 of last season,  they can be weird about that kind of stuff and i remember there always being low key anti-cam newton circlejerk bubbling under the surface.  but one thing i remember is that there was this dude with the username seafoamstratocaster who was always found in any thread vaguely mentioning cam newton.   i guess i had an easy time remembering it because seafoam green is my favorite finish on a strat.  anyway he's a PFT commenter-level salty ass seahawks fan who would talk nonstop poo about how cam is the most overrated inaccurate quarterback in the league and doesn't deserve to breathe the same air as russell wilson blah blah you know the drill.

i don't know where i'm going with this but i bet he was so butthurt about cam winning MVP and the panthers beating his favorite team twice.
