Panthers working out several draft prospects today

TheSpecialJuan

Recommended Posts

I took TheSpecialJuan's list of players we have met with, and organized based on position and CBS's expected draft position. (No need to quibble about who goes where. Personally, I think that Dodd will go before Spencer or Lawson, but I'm going with CBS rankings).

I added some notes about some of the prospects.

WIDE RECEIVERS

  • Laquon Treadwell, WR, Ole Miss (COM) (1ST ROUND, 1ST RECEIVER) draws comparisons to Dez Bryant. very unlikely to be available when we pick.
  • Tyler Boyd^, WR, Pittsburgh (COM, WOR) (2ND ROUND, 5TH RECEIVER) small receiver who plays bigger than his size. ideal for the slot position.
  • Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma (COM) (2ND-3RD ROUND, 8TH RECEIVER) small receiver, but with sure hands. Hines Ward/ Steve Smith type?
  • Keyarris Garrett, WR, Tulsa (PRI) (3RD-4TH ROUND, 15TH RECEIVER) tall, rangy receiver who has shown flashes of WR1 potential, but there are injury concerns
  • Cody Core, WR, Ole Miss (EW) (5TH ROUND, 24TH RECEIVER) good size and speed, but his entire career was in the shadow of Laquon Treadwell
  • Chris Moore^, WR, Cincinnati (PRO, WOR) (UNDRAFTED, 43RD RECEIVER) deep threat possibility
  • Hunter Sharp, WR, Utah State (EW) (UNDRAFTED, 46TH RECEIVER) another deep threat possibility, plays faster in pads than his 40 time
  • Johnny Holton, WR, Cincinnati (WOR) (UNDRAFTED)

TIGHT ENDS

  • Austin Hooper, TE, Stanford (PRO) (2ND ROUND, 2ND TIGHT END) projections are all over the place. some say 2nd round, some say undrafted. This guy seems to be a quick, athletic receiving type, with room to add more muscle.
  • Kivon Cartwright, TE, Colorado State (EW) (UNDRAFTED, 43RD TIGHT END)

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

  • Shaq Lawson^, DE/3-4OLB, Clemson (PRI, WOR) (1ST ROUND, 3RD DE)
  • Noah Spence, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Eastern Kentucky (COM) (1ST-2ND ROUND, 4TH DE) our interest is surprising given his off-field issues
  • Kevin Dodd, DE, Clemson (PRI) (1ST-2ND ROUND, 5TH DE)
  • Vernon Butler, DT/NT, Louisiana Tech (SR) (1ST-2ND ROUND, 6TH DT)
  • Romeo Okwara, DE, Notre Dame (EW) (5TH ROUND, 17TH DE)
  • David Onyemata, DT, Manitoba (EW) (7TH ROUND, 24TH DT)
  • Trevon Coley, DT, Florida Atlantic (EW) (7TH ROUND, 25TH DT)

SECONDARY

  • Harlan Miller^, CB, Southeastern Louisiana (PRO, PRI) (4TH ROUND, 16TH CB) slow for a corner, but excellent in run support. some people here have compared him to Josh Norman.
  • Jordan Lomax, FS, Iowa (EW) (7TH ROUND, 18TH FS)
  • DeAndre Elliott, CB, Colorado State (PRO) (UNDRAFTED)

OFFENSIVE TACKLES

  • Germain Ifedi, OT, Texas A&M (COM) (2ND ROUND, 6TH OT) projects as a RT and possibly a OG
  • Willie Beavers, OT, Western Michigan (SR) (5TH ROUND, 16TH OT) projects as a LT

OTHER

  • Josh Ferguson, RB, Illinois (EW) (5TH ROUND, 4TH RUNNING BACK) small, scat back type that did well behind a subpar offensive line in college. he is also good receiver out of the backfield.
  • Dak Prescott, QB, Mississippi State (PRO) (3RD-4TH ROUND, 6TH QB) poor man's Cam Newton, excellent rusher for a QB.

How many players outside of the 1st round does DG pick that he has visited? Or does it swing more towards a coordinators visit?
