Actually---just purely from a football perspective, sans the seeming questionable attitude---I think that Mike Wallace may be the best fit.

As for the poll, I pick Colston because he is the bigger, younger option that I believe has just as much in the tank, if not more than, Boldin. This in turn makes him more serviceable.

I really like Wallace's skill set on the field and Cam would make the best use of it (not like noodle-armed Teddy), however from what I've heard about his attitude, I don't think we'd even consider him. Then again, I'm still hoping we can re-unite with Hardy...

(I know it's not going to happen)

Ok so this is in NO way me promoting grabbing these guys but given our WR group at the moment is:

Benjamin, Ginn, Funchess, Brown, Norwood/Bersin/Hill/Etc...

I can totally see us adding a talented rookie via the draft (Sharp, Doctson, Pharoh) but there's one thing it seems we like in each position group: A strong vet presence.  Ginn has been playing for a while but isn't the type that strikes me as a mentor type when it comes to routes and becoming a complete WR.

So, if you had to choose between these 3, who would you go for?  They are all 34+ but it seems like they still have a year or two in the tank.  The other non-draft option would be a journeyman type in Hankerson, Mike Wallace, Andre Holmes, etc.

And I totally acknowledge we may go without a FA WR at all.

edited bc I don't know how I forgot about Andre and what we're looking at in White.

Boldin for sure, a sure handed Vet who can come up cluth when you need him too and fits the panthers physical style of play.

No. No. No.

One amazing thing we learned last year that we wouldn't have believed in August. We were fine in the WR corps. We don't need a FA pickup, we don't even need to draft this year if we don't want to. Gettleman, Rivera and Proehl had it covered last year and they'll have it covered this year.

Our big WR pickup will be getting Benjamin back. He'll be joining a group that produced the #1 offense last year for the NFL.

All those guys that have been listed WISH they were here. We're good.

Pass on Roddy. He's washed up at this point in his career, and he's prone to getting rattled and dropping passes if he goes up against a physical defense. I also know Colston will drop a few passes as well. I don't know his numbers, but I know he's dropped a few against us.

If we're going to bring anyone in, I'd rather it be Boldin or Johnson.

According to Sporting Charts, Colston had better hands than Johnson last year (4.5% to 5.2%). Boldin tops both (1.8%).

Even Whites hands were better than Johnson's (4.3%).

To those that keep saying no, I get it.  I'm even pretty much in that boat as mentioned in the OP.  I'm asking who you'd prefer between these guys if you had to choose.  Looks like Boldin has the clear edge.

I don't think there's any WRs left worth anything outside of clogging up our 4-6th in the depth chart but Boldin could be a patch up for a year as a "better than Cotchery" type. If we get a guy or two, I'd hope it's an impact draft pick to be a future #1/2 or a solid 5th-UDFA pickup that can compete with Norwood, Brown, etc.

Honestly, I would only acquire any if these vets if I thought that they would play a preponderance of the snaps  instead of Funchess. I want Funchi as the Y receiver this year. I think that he will excel there. I am thinking that Boldin, Colston or Johnson would also be best served in the slot which would cause either them or Funch to be on the bench. Now of course depth is depth, so I guess it's a "good" problem to have, but would any of those prospects be happy as a role player? I believe Funchess will beat them out because he is young, motivated and talented.

If White were coming in as the Z receiver, then his acquisition would make more sense. But does he have any juice left?

Like I said earlier in the thread, Mike Wallace would be the logical choice from a purely football perspective. He still presumably has more left in the tank than any of the older guys, plus he would be great as the Z receiver.

To be honest, I can still see KB playing the slot, which is even more if a reason why  the versatility of Wallace would make more sense than  than an old, slowish receiver also.

Hell, I don't even know why I am talking about Wallace. He'll likely be gone very soon, not that his price tag is in our budget anyway.
