So the original number was $7M, now Wilson is reporting $6.5M but his numbers add up to about $6M.

Either way all the guaranteed money is up front, important with him talking about this potentially being his last season.

If it's guaranteed does it matter if it's up front or not?  According to sporttrac he has a 2 million signing bonus which would count 1 per year regardless of retirement. He has a 500 roster bonus the first year and a 2.5M roster bonus the second. If anything that 2.5 will incent him to stay the second season.

I would assume that giving him the guaranteed money up front makes him easier to cut later, but more expensive now.

Guaranteed is guaranteed. It's guaranteed. All of his guaranteed money is up front.

You phrased it in the form of a question, so I thought you were asking.  Did not realize it was rhetorical.  Your question was, "If its guaranteed, does it matter if its upfront or not?"  But you can have a situation where a player does not honor all of the years on their contract.  There are cap implications as well.
