A bit on Swayze Waters

top dawg

What a cool name that Swayze Waters has, especially compared to the rather ner---err, geeky sounding name of Brad Nortman. But, names aside, there seems to be a little substance behind the name as can be gleaned from Joe Person's interview of the Panthers' new punter.

Not only is Waters an accomplished CFL punter (his more recent numbers were technically better than Nortman's), he appears to be a quality human being as well.

"Waters and his wife, Kendal, were in New York recently with 14 high school students from Mississippi as part of a Fellowship of Christian Athletes mission trip. The group spent time in homeless shelters, passed out blankets and took a food truck through Queens to give away hot dogs and hot chocolate to the city’s homeless."

Look for Waters to have some competition, but if he wins the job it would be kinda cool to have his first and last name on his jersey.

Would be nice if he gets the job and does well but we really need a good punter. Hope it can be him but if not we should consider drafting one in the late rounds. I like Tom Hackett from Utah in the 6th.

I know that from a theoretical standpoint, a punter cold be the BPA, but I am skeptical that G-man would ever give a punter that much consideration, choosing to peruse the pool of undrafted free agents and regular free agents instead.

we don't have a 6th.  I have no problem with using our 7th on one.

OK, let's clear up one misconception (sorta).  Yes, his punting numbers are better than Nortman's BUT....

1. The CFL has no fair catch rule.  That means a ball is more likely to hit and roll.

2.  The CFL field is wider by 12 yards.  Shanks and kicks to the sideline stay in bounds longer.

3. The CFL field is longer.  Fewer finesse punts inside the red zone.
