My Panthers Mock Draft

Round  1:

Shaq Lawson, DE, Clemson
I'd be fine with either Clemson DE here, and I honestly don't know which one, if either, will be at our pick. I think Lawson is the better of the two but Dodd finished the year hot so he has more hype heading into the draft. This may work in our favor. Lawson is a massive man who consistently disrupted other teams in the backfield. Versatile player who'd be a perfect compliment to Ealy, Short, Star. And it never hurts to have another Shaq on the team.

Round 2:

Sterling Shepard, WR, Oklahoma
By far my favorite prospect in the draft. Sharp is the complete package. His routing running is top-notch and he has very reliable hands. He would offer another deep threat to open up the field for KB and Funchess. Where he impresses the most is his ability to make plays after the catch. I know people here hate Smitty comparisons, but it's hard to deny it here. We may have to trade up a few spots to get him but he is more than worth it. A perfect fit for our offense.

Round 3:

NIck Vannett, TE, Ohio State
Another huge target for Cam. Vannett has reliable hands, long arms and a well-built frame. Not afraid to get physical and block. Based on what I've read and seen of him, he seems like a Gettleman type prospect. Would give our offense more variety along with Shepard. It'd be scary to watch.

Round 4:

Willie Henry, DT, MIchigan
Very young, very raw talent with high upside. He already shows great technique off the line. Has been compared to both Star and KK. Anything close to either would be a great addition. He will take some time to develop but he would be sitting behind two of the best.

Round 5:

Briean Boddy-Calhoun, CB, Minnesota
Little guy but super quick and a knack to making a play on the ball. Would be a nice option for the nickel spot.

Round 7:

Drew Kaser, P, Texas A&M
He kicks the ball really far.

Love this draft! Not a big fan of Lawson in our system though.  Would rather have Dodd or Ogbah here and think atleast one will fall to us.  Love the Henry pick, have been saying that's our trai Turner type pick with the DT class being so deep.  Henry was thought to be one of the top DT's in next draft and a sure 1st rounders but came out to early. Vannett is exactly what we need at the 2nd TE with his size and blocking ability.  Shepard at the slot for us is also a perfect match.

I'd personally prefer Bullard in our system, but I wouldn't hate the Lawson pick.  Shepard is also my favorite prospect in the draft, so I'm all in on him in the second (or even first) round.  I don't know much about the TE but if he has the talent it wouldn't be a bad pick - we don't necessarily need him next year, but we might be able to free up cap space (by cutting Dickson) and develop a successor to Olsen.  I like the positions drafted in the 4th or 5th rounds (don't know much about the individual prospects).  Nice job.

    • That would be a great pick, he might be my favorite for us right now.
    • The coach- Canales was a rookie hc and at times looked like it. But he did manage to revamp the offense, helped Bryce not look like the biggest bust of the draft, exuded positivity,  and made the panthers watchable again. We have a viable head coach for the first time since rivera The gm- Morgan had some hits and some big misses. Hits- the ol, Coker, demani, dj at first. Misses- almost every d player signed, brooks, the jury is out on x. I get what he was trying to do with brooks/Hubbard but it blew up in his face. Hopefully he learns from his mistakes. But he did trade mingo for a 4th, managed to get a 2nd rounder this year from the Rams and I am a fan of constantly churning the bottom of the roster The draft- x can be a solid player but not until he catches the ball, brooks was a high risk pick that didn't work out, Wallace, demani and Chau Smith can be solid contributors and showed glimpses, Coker and jt should be mainstays. And flipping a 7th round lb that was about to be cut for Jackson was a great move.  The offense- had its ups and downs but Bryce has turned from one of the biggest busts in nfl history to a potential franchise qb, that change is worth its weight in gold, thielen was crafty and underrated as usual, Coker was a gem, jt was the solid but has some growing to do, and Hubbard has been awesome, the o line was much improved as well The defense- well...they set records, injuries, poor coaching (imo), bad playcalling and just plain sucking this defense needs everything to change, we need horn and Jackson back and we get brown back but we need bodies and an identity. If they can do with the def what they did with the o then we can challenge for the division bc we already have some pieces there.  Overall- this was a growth year full of questions and some of the major ones were answered(qb, coach). For the first time in a long time the season didn't end depressingly and I do have cautious optimism for next year. But they need to learn from the mistakes of 2024 and if they do I like where this team is headed. On to the draft and 2025
