*Moving to San Diego (Solana Beach)

I like SD more than LA, I've been in LA my entire life and am moving out of state after I graduate, but if I were to come back to California, SD would be my top choice.  Cheaper than LA (still expensive), way more walkable, and seems like less of a rat race. Plus SD and Portland every year are the interchangeable 1 and 2 as best beer cities in America (as this has already been mentioned).

Definitely go for it if you get the chance!

It's probably the best weather in the entire country. I've been debating moving there as well, the biggest thing holding me back is the cost of living is so high (real estate especially is outrageous). If you're already used to the high cost of living then it's a no brainer.

San Diego is by far the best place on Earth, not a doubt in my mind.

Even when I go on vacation I just go to a different place in San Diego for a week because fug the rest of the world, it's not as cool as San Diego.

Sports teams suck, but Petco is a nice stadium with a cool surrounding and tons to do.  Dodger stadium is always fun.  Get some bowl games at Qualcomm couple times a year.  And every once in a while a team worth watching plays the Chargers.

Thing is with SD real estate, even in the North County area, you can go 10 miles inland and the prices drop incredibly, but you're basically in the desert.... I mean, Solana Beach proper is only about 6 square miles, and unless you're a fugging millionaire, forget it. But drive north and east toward Vista and it's a little easier on the wallet.

But here's an example: 1 bed/1 bath, 762sf condo, short sale, $325k. And it's on the east/wrong side of I-5 about 3 miles inland.

And you know what true San Diegans say.... "There is no life east of I-5."

Yeah, Del Mar and Solana seem quite pricey haha.  I can work with rentals around 1,200-1,500 but higher gets a tad trickier.  May hold off on buying for now though.

Back on the SD front, I need to figure out the best spots to look in if I'm gonna rent at first and want to be at least somewhat close to Solana.

Encinitas is right up the road and substantially larger than Solana with a decent inventory of condos and apartments. Next up is Carlsbad (you can get lucky with rentals there occasionally) and forget about La Costa- way too much dinero.

San Marcos and Vista are affordable options as well.

As I said, the further inland you go, the cheaper it gets.

Thanks a ton. I've been told by my bud to check out the Pacific Beach area. Damn I'm stoked.

PB is over the La Jolla hill closer to downtown and the commute, albeit 19 miles, takes 30 minutes without traffic and about an hour during peak driving times. From someone who grew up in the PB, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach communities, trust me when I tell you that commute will wear on you in no time. The only thing you may have going for you is the fact most traffic will be headed in the opposite direction and you could realistically drive the city streets from PB up to Solana Beach- I used to pedal it every day when I trained- without taking the interstate.

So I'm looking around the north side of PB, La Jolla, and North Park.  Seem like the best fits with an ok commute.  Keeping my eye out for a steal close to Solana but it's a tough find. I've been told to keep it north of Chalcedony St. in PB.
