Depends on what we'd have to give up. We gave our 6th and 7th picks to Seattle and Chicago, right? It would have to be a pretty sure thing player to give up one of our limited picks.

Our 2016 6th is gone to Chicago for Jared Allen trade

Our 2017 7th is gone to Seattle for Kevin Norwood trade

So, at the moment, we still have 6 picks this year.

Cool, thanks. I thought Seattle had our 7th this year. I'm not sure that a 7th round pick helps that much if we're trying to trade up to early in the 2nd (unless a 4th or 5th is also included), but I'm happy to have it there.

Has anyone else heard that Joe Thomas is seeking a trade from the Browns? Would DG bite and trade our 1st and swap 2nds with the Browns for him? And draft maybe Derrick Henry or Bullard in the top of the 2nd. I know this isn't DG's MO but Thomas is one of the top LT in the league and him being available (rumor) would be a steal of a deal for us! Also Thomas's deal runs for another 2-3 years

I forgot about these moves. Now, I think we are a little limited when talking trading picks.

Somehow if we end up with a Bullard De in the first and Sterling WR in the second, I would be ecstatic.

DE pass rushing compares nothing like DT pass rushing.  I want a DE that can set the end and dominate at the snap in which Bullard does so well.

with our 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7th round picks, I could definitely see us packaging our 5th and 7th to move up 15-20 spots in the 2nd if a team takes that deal.  I wouldn't even really mind it being our 4th and 7th.  #30 overall, #40-45 overall, and our 3rd and 5th round picks.  Those 4 picks can be contributors.  Let's face it, our 7th round pick will likely be a practice squadder at best, likely to never see an active game day.  I'd much rather use it and our 4th or 5th to move up in the 2nd if we can grab someone like Bullard, Hunter Henry or Sterling Shepard.

We get square this year with everyone per Walter Football.

  • Our 2016 6th is gone to Chicago for Jared Allen trade
  • Our 2016 7th is gone to Seattle for Kevin Norwood trade

I think they've got it wrong.  (After all, that's a site that says our #1 draft need is quarterback!)

Panthers.com has this via the mouth of DG at the Combine:

5. HOUSEKEEPING ON KEVIN NORWOOD TRADE: Gettleman confirmed that the Panthers will send their seventh-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft to the Seahawks after acquiring wide receiver Kevin Norwoodicon-article-link.gif from Seattle in the preseason. Norwood played in just one game but was on the 53-man roster all season.

"We thought very highly of him in the draft, so our thought process was, for a seventh-round pick?" Gettleman said. "We feel like this guy is going to be a player. Who doesn’t want a player for a seventh-round pick?"

The OFFICIAL NFL draft order for the 7th round doesn't seem to be posted yet, but every site I've seen do a 7 round mock draft, every database has us picking in the 7th.

Just for added confirmation on the Norwood trade, unless the league has changed something since the trade happened, all the original articles all specify that it was a 2017 pick:

The Seahawks have traded receiver Kevin Norwood to the Carolina Panthers on Monday, receiving an undisclosed conditional 2017 draft pick in return.

The Carolina Panthers added a new face to their depleted receiving corps.

The team announced Monday that they traded for Seattle Seahawks receiver Kevin Norwood.

The Seahawks initially planned to cut the 2014 fourth-round pick out of Alabama, before finding a trade partner in Carolina. The Seahawks will receive an undisclosed conditional draft pick in 2017, according to the team.

@the greatest, their is going to be a great skills player at 30.

The Draft is 15-20 deep with 1st round hog mollies. Then u got teams that have quarterback needs. Plus teams with LB needs.

By the time 30 rolls around there should be above average talent for what it's typically slotted in the 30th pick.

Interesting hypothesis. Would Gman go WR three years running? Or what about a RB? No, don't see that one. Does that mean maybe a CB left on the board? I like it. Lots of variables to mull over. Thanks.

Then again, maybe teams will see all that talent in the Hog department, and go skill players in the first, and get their Hog Molly in the second? Ah hellz, we still are going to get a talented kid at 30.  My head hurts.

We rotate our Dline pretty heavily, as you say, and right now we have 2 vacancies at DT with Edwards gone, and Love not (yet) re-signed.

DT seems a pretty high priority, and very definitely a position I can see G'man going for in round 1 and/or round 2.  With both KK & Star reaching the end of their rookie deals (though we have Star's 5th year option), it makes sense to get solid DT depth in case we can't sign one of them.

FYI, here are the 2015-2016 snap counts for our DTs (includes post season)

  • Kawann Short — 897
  • Star Lotulelei — 633
  • Dwan Edwards — 447
  • Kyle Love — 343
  • Colin Cole — 49

That's a great tl/dr!  I'll have to remember that given that I write some pretty long posts!

I don't understand the hold-up with Love? Because that is a lot of snaps that need to be replaced. Add in what Dwan contributed, and that is a poo ton of snaps we are missing. I agree with bringing in a Vet. I just hope we get one that can both contribute and mentor, not just mentor and play. I mean, I do realize we are talking about depth here. I just would hate to lose to much production with our back-ups in.

The chances are good that if we grab a 1st round DT, he will be up to the task of backing up KK, or Short. So I could see that scenario. Which could explain why Gman has not nabbed a Vet DT yet. He is waiting on the draft so he knows which position he needs to add. I don't care how we do it. But by damm, we had better add 2 quality DTs this year, or I am going to have a fit. Yah, I said it.

By all means. Steal my sign off. The wife has taken everything else I own. You might as well have that. jk

Someone started a thread about Doctson so everyone now has seen his highlight reel and are high on him...there is just something about him that I'm not keen on, the eyeball test maybe...I'd pass on him.  That highlight reel showed me he doesn't run the best routes and doesn't get much separation...bad combination that won't fly in the NFL. Yeah, yeah he did well in shorts at the combine.
