It is interesting, and just a bit worrying, that the Falcons - who are very needy at Center - are letting him go.

Well they did sign Alex Mack, and they apparently have a couple guys in the mix to be the backup.

Solid move.  One thing I've really noticed the last few years in preseason games (disclaimer- no way to put too much stock in anything preseason) but our 2nd and 3rd units have typically looked better than their competition.  In a league where injury attrition adds up every year, depth is something that is dramatically overlooked by almost everyone, and certainly by preseason predictions.  It's tough with the salary cap to build quality depth at every position, but that is one thing Gettleman has certainly done a lot better IMO than a lot of the GM's in the league.

I really agree with this.  Our 2s & 3s have definitely looked better than their preseason counterparts, at least very noticeably this past year.  And Gettleman does a very good job churning the bottom of the roster looking for incremental upgrades.

Gradowski may not be a guy to replace Kalil, but if he's better than Velasco -  (he's YOUNGER at least) - this improves our depth.

There's our insurance for Kalil next year.  We will be targeting a Center in the draft also mark it down.

I said that back during the season when a few folks wanted to peek ahead to the offseason.

Safety, DE, CB2, TE2 and C were my team needs before any offseason moves were made.  Still looks to be holding up.

Go back a year and you'll see numerous concerned comments about how we were getting a left tackle who was a castoff from a bad offensive line with the Titans.

I'd say it worked out okay.

Indeed.  And as someone said, if this guy has Matsko connections from Baltimore, I have quite a bit of confidence there's something there we can work with.

[Oops... nevermind.  I see that he arrived in Baltimore after Matsko came here....]

Our coaches took 2 UDFAs, a reclamation project, and a 3rd round rookie and turned them into a very good O-line. Atlanta's coaches couldn't teach proper QB-Center exchanges last year (5 of their fumbles lost last year were bad snaps), and like to shove coaches from other teams while asking prospects if they like men.

Yeah, I'm confident we can turn Gradkowski into a decent player
