Why Weddle won't be a Panther

OP will be the first one crying when we "over pay" him lol.

I want him as much as anyone here, and if we signed him I'd trust DG for whatever he paid him. It's not happening though, and you and everybody else here knows it. Jeremy said as much earlier, Weddle won't be a Panther. I'll "eat crow" as the kids say if we sign him, but I don't see any way it happens.

I don't think we get Weddle (if even interested), but I'd imagine he's only looking for 5-7 mil a year (mostly guaranteed). Meanwhile, DG is more along the lines of 3-4 mil to chase a ring on the best team in the league, take it or leave it.

He wasn't happy making 10 the last two seasons so 5-7 is a joke to him.

Some agents are better at it than others, and his agent just got Olivier fuging Vernon paid more than JJ Watt.

FYI I don't tweeter so I have no clue what he was saying, nor do I care. Point is that his agent is the best in the business.

Vernon happened to be signed in a city where the GM is desperate to keep his job. Marty Hurney, come on down.

If I was a multi-millionaire and you asked me if I would swap 2M for a SB ring and all the perks and benefits that came with it......no fuging brainier

We say this every offseason and every offseason guys go for the money.

Weddle has actually already said that he wants his next contract to be with a Super Bowl contender

You realize this same agent has two clients that have signed with the Panthers, right? One of them is set to make 860K this year, the other 525K

All I see is Teddy Williams, strictly a special teamer who wouldn't even be guaranteed to make another team's roster. Who else?

Yeah, the Vernon deal is the only monster contract this agent has EVER gotten for any of his clients. And it has much more to do with the Giants going full-Hurney than anything else.

I mean, look at this crap (and that JPP deal is only one year)

The agent is honestly irrelevant. Gipson got over $7M/year. While he's a solid player who's had a lot of interceptions, he was pretty terrible last year and has 1 pro bowl. Weddle is a 5 time All-Pro. He wants 3-5 years and his market value is easily well over the $7M/year Gipson got. Lets say he wants to play for a contender badly enough that he takes $2M less per year. That's still $7M/year for 3-5 years. I would be all for that to be honest, but it's clear as day DG values linemen over the secondary and we've got two great ones to pay and Ealy may be coming up soon as well, in addition to Josh, Turner, Norwell, KB, Bene, and others all coming up sooner than later. It just isn't happening people. Every year here people get their hopes up about signing a "splash" free agent. And it hasn't happened. And it won't happen now, considering who we need to extend soon.
