Can anyone recall a big free agent signing that the Panthers have made since the 90s? Kevin Greene and Eric Davis were big signings in 1996 then there was obviously the Sean Gilbert disaster but I don't know of one since then. There was Olsen but that was a trade and there have been name signings like Keyshawn, Shockey, Tillman and Oher but none of those guys were highly sought after at the time we brought them in. Stephen Davis and Ken Lucas maybe? Anyone else?

Lucas was a big name get at the time. Justin Hartwig was another big deal... and much like fellow big deal Chuck Smith, was a total dud.

Yeah you're right I am so glad we reached the ultimate goal with 30 other teams of not winning the super bowl.

In fact if i recall, we lost to a team that is less concerned proudly boasting how much money they gave to average players because they were *gasp* homegrown rather than acquiring upgrades from *eeek* other teams. I sure would hate to be a super bowl champion. In fact let's spend the next ten years boasting teams how we made it to the big game that one time, years ago

Their bandwagon is accepting applications.  You'd probably be happier there.

the broncos 100% sold out for a super bowl win because they knew the clock was ticking on manning.  they weren't worried about building crap and pretty much accepted the fact that they'd be tearing things down after peyton retired.  and they are.

the panthers have an ascendant star quarterback and are concerned about the future.  you're comparing a retiree buying a camper and rolling around the country to a 24 year old starting a career.

You could argue Charles Tillman and Jared Allen.  Though both were late in their careers, they were well known names.

In prior years, Mike Wahle, Ken Lucas, Ma'ake Kemoeatu, Damione Lewis, Justin Hartwig were all 'top free agent' signings, and yeah there have been others. Kevin Dyson probably fits the profile too.

i can't be the only person who remembers you jerking off mickey loomis and the saints last year for all their idiotic trades and FA moves and what idiots panthers fans are for thinking the salary cap is real.

You're not.

I believe 2005 was the last time we spent big on outside help with Ken Lucas and Mike Wahle. Im not sure if Marlon McCree was as expensive as the other too.

I think  Make Kemoeatu and Hartwig too the following year but other than that its just Olsen I think. Kinda surprised we havent made a move like that again considering how well that worked.

Overcompensating for something, eh? Yeah, I remember when I use to do that over the interwebz... when I was 12.

Lol I can tell you're like at least a year older than that now with a revolutionary and game-changing penis joke

You are just a prodigy

Literally any idiot would take a super bowl right now over this mythical "we're so set up for the future!!!" that is a hallmark staple of the Carolina panthers offseason year in and year out.

We are roughly half way through our franchise QB's tenure here. How many consecutive years will the team be "prepping for the future" exactly while the roster continues to age around them

Its time to stop rationalizing why recent franchises have won super bowls and it's time to emulate them.

Well, you were right about one thing.

One Super Bowl followed by several years of garbage teams is not preferable to building a team that can be in contention on an annual basis. And that's what our front office is doing.

The entire premise put forth by homers, er huddlers is that by sacrificing the first half of a career we are going to become a dynasty in the last half, because, it's the only way it can be justified. By sacrificing a super bowl(s) now, it must mean you're going to win many down the line

so if by all means the panthers win the 3 Super Bowls in the next 6 seasons then we can all bask in the glory of our hilariously never-was method of a team 10 year building plan

unfortunately if we don't win 3 Super Bowls in the next 6 years we will always have to wonder what could have happened if the team was more concerned with winning Super Bowls while the window was open rather than preparing for the glorious future, which has shown to be a fickle mistress which never actually comes

Would you rather be like the Saints or the Patriots?
