Regarding Eric Weddle. We will know if we are in the running if he actually visits us. Pats and Steelers will probably be out since the Pats are shopping hard for a RB, WR and TE with limited cap room and the Steelers have limited cap room and just inked Ladarius Green. Raiders will obviously be in on him.

No, this was always going to be a slow one. He's looking for the right situation (in addition to $). Visit(s) first.

IF we do bring him in for a visit, I really like our odds.

thats a big IF, though.

Agreed. This definitely gets my hopes up though(that never works out well at all lol).

Money goes down the longer he waits and if we get him in the building then Rivera and Wilks can put the hard sell on him. I didn't like our chances at all if it was just contract offers over the phone.

Yep. I'm trying to stay as neutral as I can on bringing him in (maintaining expectations)...but I like this little nugget about him being deliberate with his visits, negotiations. Kind of gets my hopes up.

If it comes out that we are bringing him in for a visit, my excitement level will be extremely high because I'm confident in Rivera and Wilks familiarity with him and the fact that we are and will be a contender for years to come...and also confident in our GM making sure the money is right for both sides.

Guess we will see.

Mike Silver reports that 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick is the Broncos “chief target” and believes they will go after him in a trade.

  • According to Silver, the 49ers will likely want a second-round pick for Kaperernick, but the Broncos may be only willing to part with a third-round selection for him.
  • A source tells Silver that Kaepernick will likely be willing to restructure his contract to Broncos’ liking, even though it’s considered a team-friendly deal.
  • For what it’s worth, Manish Mehta adds that the “the feeling is that this is going to happen.”
  •

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the 49ers receives some calls from other teams about QBColin Kaepernick. However, there was “nothing too serious.

Paul Kuharsky of ESPN reports that the Titans have reached an agreement with WR Rishard Matthews on a three-year deal.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Titans signed Matthews to a three-year, $15 million deal that will pay him $5M in 2016. The deal includes another $2.55M available in incentives.

This morning's NFLPA salary cap report has us at $19,736,231 in cap space (though that's only with 66 contracts reported, we're still missing Webb).

Take out $5M for Gettleman's in-season buffer money then another $1.7M for the rookie pool($4.4M - (6 * $450k)) and $1M for Webb and we have around $12M in cap space to spend this offseason.

If you then assume we will extend Kawann, which would likely increase his cap hit by $4-6M then it's probably more like $7M.

That's really only enough for 1-2 mid-tier players.
