I'm more concerned that Rich Eisen was the one the scooped Nortman leaving before our local beat writers over the fact of Nortman actually leaving

You must not have a lot of experience with the two garbage beat writers the Observer has on the Panthers.

This time of year, you're much better off following beat writers of other teams......Brad Biggs and Aaron Wilson come to mind.

he and gano were tight and he was an upper-half punter. replaceable and i'm glad we didn't overpay him, but upgrades aren't a given.

let's hope swayze waters is a badass

what do you mean they were "tight"??? Punters and kickers are a dime a dozen bro. You only need one who doesn't get shell shocked.

Our special teams trio (K / P / LS) legitimately had great chemistry with each other.

You don't overpay to keep that, but it's still pretty good to have.

I wouldn't worry too much about the chemistry being disrupted.

I'm told Swayze Waters likes to go with the flow.

meh. I'd be willing to bet the ST trio are friends/have good chemistry on most clubs because nobody else on the team talks to them unless they are mistaken for a water boy.

Sorry, but the Nortman signing is a non story. All it does is create a hole which they seem more than happy to fill with some no name scrub free agent who was probably working part time at a Lowes 2 months ago.

We already have another punter.

Unknown if he will be the guy but he's on roster.

Ok y'all

Since the news of signing punter Swayze Waters back in Feb. seems to have streamed right past people (folks were probably too hungover from the SB loss...)

Here's a bunch of links:

Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swayze_Waters

He went to college at UAB

He's been on the roster (training camp...) of 3 NFL teams; (Detroit who signed him as a UDFA in 2009; Oakland & Pittsburgh)

and 2 CFL teams  (Edmonton & Toronto)

Articles about his signing by Panthers:

He was the CFL's special teams player of the year in 2014 after averaging 47.7 yards per punt and hitting 47-of-52 field goals as well as all 40 of his PATs.

He missed most of last season – his fourth with the Toronto Argonauts – with a hip injury. Prior to moving to the CFL, Swayze spent offseason time with the Lions, Raiders and Steelers from 2009-11.

Waters played collegiately at UAB before spending the past four seasons with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League.

Waters averaged 46.9 yards on 269 career punts for the Argos, but a hip injury limited him to five games during the 2015 season. In 45 CFL games, Waters made 101-of-127 field-goal attempts and all 98 of his extra-point attempts for 401 points.

Waters was the CFL's Special Teams Player of the Year in 2014 after leading the league in in scoring (192 points), field goals (47), punting (47.7 yards per attempt) and kickoffs (65.2 yards per kickoff).

Waters was at UAB from 2005 through 2008, serving as the primary place-kicker and punter in his final two seasons. He made 50 of his 62 field-goal attempts for the Blazers. In 2007, Waters was a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award when he set a UAB single-season record with 22 field goals.
