To be fair, he does have something of a point.

Richardson has shown he won't interfere in Gettleman's running the team.  The fact that guys like Steve Smith and Charles Johnson can be let go is the clearest evidence of that.  So yeah, the nuts and bolts of the contracts and such is pretty much all Gettleman.

Now that said, does the relationship Richardson factor into Johnson's decision making?  I'd think so.  Likewise, his wanting to start a business in Charlotte probably figures in there as well.

You can debate over what factors in the most or the least.  I honestly don't care.  the result is the same.

I give Gettleman a ton of credit for this move. It's not easy to stick to your guns when other teams are offering up double what you have.
