Charles Johnson officially signs 1-year, $3M deal

It wouldnt shock me to see CJ have a 8-10 sack year next season which means he would be looking at a pretty nice payday on the open market. Long term, he's probably better off playing on a high profile, SB contending team as a member of a great defense at 3mil than playing on an irrelevant bottom feeder like TB for 6 mil if he's auditioning for a nice contract after the season.

DE is still a huge need, but damn this helps a ton. IF we get the beast version of Ealy from the SB, with a last hurrah/injury-free/motivated CJ, to go with Addison, and a high draft pick? Lawd.

Why would this be his last hurrah. Why do people insist his tank is almost empty?  I dont get it. He was beast in postseason

Mad respect for CJ but keep tbis in mind..

Hes already been paid very hansomly. 3 mil isnt that much of a discrepancy when it cones to a 76 million dollar contract.

It is half of 6 million and for anyone counting that is a big discrepancy.

Grateful to CJ for sticking with the Panthers instead of chasing the almighty dollar.

I don't think his tank is empty...a one year deal though is just a little puzzling unless he and Gettleman exclusively talked about a prove it type deal where we'd revisit his contract if he plays well this year.

It's been confirmed he was offered more money, and I would assume more years. With him opening restaurants and yada yada, maybe he's thinking early retirement? Nobody really knows.

Any chance we still sign Coples to play DT?

A one year, $3M deal shouldn't preclude us from signing anybody. I would think Coples is definitely still on our radar, especially with us cutting Dwan Edwards.
