Big money came through for the team. Props to CJ for this.

very true. easy to gloat over gettles but it's pretty amazing CJ loved the team enough to take a real hometown discount. we talk about that sort of thing but it never actually happens, and here CJ just threw 3m down the drain to play for the city he loves.

i can't wait to watch him ball out this year.

All of this.

Don't play poker with Nipple Shorts folks.

"I call, you're bluffing."

I have a feeling GMagic wanted to sign him to a one year deal and CJ didn't want that.  Dave said ok, well, test the market for more years but this offer expires at noon on the 9th.  We'd love to have you back though.  I think it's giving CJ the best of all options.  He gets another prove it type year in a system he could really thrive in.  Guessing Giants wanted a one year option as well.

am I the only one that wanted to see the team move on from CJ?

I just wanted to move on from that albatross of a contract not the player, I think he can still play. If the 3 mil deal is true, Gettleman essentially made him take a 8 million dollar pay cut when you factor in the dead money.

To try to turn this into an analogy: Charles is the mouthy teenage who thinks he knows everything and believes his parents are dumb asses. Gettleman kicked him out on the street to fend for himself. Now he's back with hat in hand, doing chores, making good grades, and answering yes ma'am and no sir to every question asked.

all I can say is WOW, what a steal. completely shocked we got him at $3 million. From Rotoworld:

Panthers re-signed DE Charles Johnson to a one-year, $3 million contract.
It's surprisingly little money for the 29-year-old pass rusher, though he is coming off an injury-ruined, one-sack regular season. Johnson supposedly turned down $6 million elsewhere to stay home in Carolina. Johnson flirted with the Bucs and Giants over the last few days, visiting both clubs likely in an effort to drive up the Panthers' contract offer. One of the best players in Panthers history, Johnson showed he still has gas in the tank with a dominant postseason. Besides perhaps Kony Ealy, Johnson arguably had the best performance by a Carolina defender in Super Bowl 50. He piled up nine tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles in the Panthers' three playoff games. Mar 8 - 7:30 PM
