As much as I have criticized him this past season, I'm glad that he'll be back at a lower cap number. Hopefully we can get him and other vets like TD a ring this season.

Agree. I wasn't even sure I wanted him back but now that he is I'm happy about it.

Pre-release, his cap was going to be what like 15 mil?  Factor in the 4 mil dead $ from that contract and a 1-yr 4-6 mil type deal and it's a win-win all around.  We basically save up to 8 million by releasing a guy and then getting him back because the team, locker room, and org is awesome.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Panthers will re-sign free agent DE Charles Johnson.

Johnson flirted with the Bucs and Giants over the last few days, visiting both clubs likely in an effort to drive up the Panthers' contract offer. One of the best players in Panthers history, 29-year-old Johnson will stay with the team that selected him 83rd overall in the 2007 draft. Although Johnson managed one sack during an injury-plagued 2015 regular season, he showed he still has gas in the tank with a dominant postseason. Besides perhaps Kony Ealy, Johnson arguably had the best performance by a Carolina defender in Super Bowl 50. He piled up nine tackles, three sacks, and two forced fumbles in the Panthers' three playoff games.

Wow, I didn't realize how good of a postseason he had.

Other things happening in all those games (KK, Luke vs Seattle, offensive dominance vs. Arizona, Ealy vs. Denver) made him kind of under the radar but he was pretty damn dominant in the playoffs. I of course remembered his forced fumble (maybe even both) in the Super Bowl and he had some nice pressure but forgot how good he was in the other two games. Hopefully he can build off of that this year since he was piss poor since coming back in the regular season last year.
