CJ was never great.... Above average yes great no... Let's not forget that every year except 2010 he had elite linemates.... Peppers,Hardy,Short ect...

2011 and 2012 were hardly years with 'elite' linemates - CJ was literally the only quality player on the DL in those years. While Hardy had a good year (and 1 more sack than CJ) in 2012, one could just as easily argue that Hardy benefited from 'elite' linemates in 2012, 2013, and his game in 2014.

If CJ is going to go to an NFCS rival, I guess I'd rather it be the Bucs than Atlanta.

I know the Bucs are improving, but with their coach carousel, it limits them a bit.  I'm a bit more worried with Atlanta under Quinn.  I think they are the team who'll most threaten us in the division.

That might be so but I haven't seen evidence of it yet.

That team is a goddam circus and a laughing stock in the Atlanta area since about midway through last year.  And their offseason hi-jinx have added to the act.

I feel like he's coming back. Most of his followers are Panther fans, why he he put a tease out there if Panther fans follow. He's got to fly back to Charlotte and sign the dead that's why the "epic" surprise is coming in a few days. One can hope right? Plus, if it was so epic, he would have signed tampas offer then.

lol every single offseason "the Bucs are up and coming, this latest batch of free agents will put them over the top and into the playoffs!"

Here's a quick comparison

The last 5 seasons, the Browns have finished 4th in their division every single season and have an overall record of 23-57. Their best season they went 7-9.

Those same 5 seasons, the Bucs have also finished dead last in their division every single season and have an overall record of 23-57. Their best season was also 7-9.

Why would it affect our comp picks in 2017?

Doesn't affect our comp pick situation regardless.  We cut him, he didn't leave as a FA.

Right, we don't gain anything by cutting him, but if he signs back after free agency starts he could count against us.

All players signed after 4 pm tomorrow will count against 2017 comp. picks. It's why we pushed so hard to sign Oher and Ginn before Free Agency last year.

Had CJ just expired and then re-signed, the impact likely would've canceled out. However, since he was cut, we don't get that benefit.

If he's coming back, or if we're planning on bringing in another cut player a la Coples, it'll probably be done in the next 21 hours.
