Cotchery not in Panthers plans

It will be sad if Cotch's final game as a Panther was that dreadful Super Bowl.  It sucks.  All season, NO DROPS, and then 3 in the biggest game of all.  Poor guy.  I hate it for him and for us.

He was a huge stabilizing force and great mentor, and clutch receiver as we remade our WR corps, but I think we have enough depth & maturity on the roster now among the WRs now that it's probably right for him to move on.

We will sign a vet and draft a player for competition. We also have Byrd who may make some noise in camp this year. It's all about competition. Nobody is safe except Cam, Luke, TD, KK, the guards, J-no, and Olsen.

And Stewy, Ealy, KB, Kalil, Shaq, and probably Coleman and Bene. And Fun Fun, Oher, and DWill.

Point being. That we have basically 3 spots that need immediate attention. DE, to replace/upgrade from CJ. DT, to replace/upgrade from Dwan. And Nickel. Other than those 3, we have established starters going at every other position. Now that doesn't mean that some of those positions cannot be upgraded. It just means that if we are unable to upgrade those spots, we are still in pretty good shape.

IMO, we absolutely need a Vet DE that can both produce, and mentor. Someone to pair with Ealy. That may not be cheap. But it is a necessity in my book. DT is more for depth. But a quality back-up is needed. Not nearly as expensive as the DE, so this is doable. The NB is a question to me. A Vet may not be too expensive, so bringing in a Vet to pair with maybe a draft pick could work out.

Boston is coming into his 3rd year. Really need to find out what we have with him. Same with the WR corp. We need to see what we have before we know for certain whether we need to upgrade or not. Which is why I don't see us bringing in a Vet WR, or S.

But hellz. At the right price almost any spot can be upgraded.

Good luck to him. He did his job and we got more from him than I had expected. He will be remembered for his drops in the SB but during the season he always made the big catches.

I am not saying I am in favor of this BUT IF we were to go after a veteran FA WR who would you all want? Please don't respond with the stay with the guys on the roster. Let's just say IF we were going to pick up a FA veteran over 30 who would it be? My 1 yr pick would be Boldin. I feel like he could replace the Cotch role. And yes I'd prefer to stay with who we have a draft a speedy WR but that is not the question.

I too would vote for Boldin, but not expecting it.
