Leaving at thirty years of age, one year before Barry Sanders. Body was getting beat up. Nice to retire at thirty and be set for life.....Lions are fugged.

Good for him.

The Lions do have problems (They are the Lions), but his impact on their offense had been declining for the last couple of years so they aren't fuged per se because he retired.

Freak of nature receiver. Not sure he's HOF bound, though. Like another poster said, he's Hall of Good. I think his resume is too incomplete.

Honestly feel sorry for the guy. That franchise and his QB let him down, as I think he had potential to be one of the GOATs or very close to it.

Has Megatron really had a HOF career? I'm looking at his statistics and nine years isn't enough in my opinion.

Smitty has 2,000 more yards.

Has as many yards as Michael Irvin in only 9 seasons, but I think this era of pass-happy football will hurt his stock as well. A lot more opportunities for modern receivers.

Probably pushed for a trade in secret with the front office and they declined. Threatened to retire and they tried to call his bluff. Calvin Johnson retires, Detroit continues being .

That is indeed what happened, and if he comes back he will still be a Detroit

It was said he want to be cut so when/if he came back he would have control of what team he would play for  ,, But no luck
